6 Dec 2016

He may not have followed the quintessential route like the other Deols and likes to carve his niche as an unconventional actor. Abhay Deol, who has done couple of out-of-the-box films, has now decided to take a step towards promoting indie films. Abhay Deol decided to turn film curator for indie films. From what we hear the actor-producer has selected three films from the NFDC Film Bazaar to release them digitally. According them, they are the strong voices in South Asias independent cinema. Revealing details about the films, Abhay stated that he saw Labor of Love at IFFLA (India Film Festival of Los Angeles) and his other picks included Payal Sethis Leeches and Brahmanand Singhs Kaagaz Ki Kashti.Talking about Singhs film, Abhay added that the film is homage to Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh which was premiered at MAMI. On the other hand, Abhay was all praises for director Vikram Sengupta who helmed Labor of Love and was appreciative of his aesthetic sensibilities and how he could create a story without dialogues. He was also mighty impressed by Leeches describing it as a compelling story on anathematic subject. Abhay Deol also spoke about how economically viable digital release is for independent films and how it can help in curbing piracy if it is available on legitimate digital platforms.
