Yash Chopra announces retirement Jab Tak Hain Jaan to be his last

28 Sep 2012

Couple of days back, KJo stated that the SRK-Anushka- Katrina starrer Jab Tak Hain Jaan will be Yash Chopra's last film. And in a grand event yesterday to celebrate Yash Chopra's 80th birthday, the living legend himself announced his retirement from film direction. "I think I've had enough. I have always lived according to what my heart tells me. I won't make any film after Jab Tak Hai Jaan. I want to do other things now. Launch new people. My wife has been complaining, so I will make her happy."

The event also saw Yash Chopra talk about one of the most epic casting of all time that he pulled off for Silsila. The question was how he convinced Jaya Bachchan and Rekha to share screen space in Silsila. To this, Chopra replied "I told Amitabh that I wanted Jaya and Rekha in the film. He paused for a moment and then said, 'Bombay jaake you meet them.' On our return flight, we didn't talk to each other. "Before I started the film, dono ko maine alag alag bola, for obvious reasons, that please gadbad mat karna. They assured me nothing would happen. I have realized if you are honest with the stars and your script, nothing can go wrong."

Yash Chopra's retirement surely marks the end of an era in Indian Cinema.
