25 Jan 2013

The woes surrounding Kamal Hassan's Vishwaroopam seem to be far from over. After having got banned in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal, the film today has been banned in Hyderabad in 'communally sensitive areas' because of the Milad-un-Nabi festival. While the police officials have asked the distributors to desist from screening the film in communally sensitive zones on Friday, Sabita Indra Reddy (Home Minister) has directed the police to stop the screening until Jan 28, post some Muslim leaders calling her and demanding a ban.

Speaking about the controversy, Kamal, in his defense said that his brothers have misunderstood him. He added that he knows of Muslims who have liked the film and that there have been many Muslims in the Censor Board and they have no complaint. He, after having held a special show for Muslim representatives recently, said that he was touched by voices in support of his film. Buzz is that a senior judge will watch the movie on Jan 26 and decide on its fate.

Meanwhile, hope for Kamal Haasan and his film came in the form of the legendary Superstar Rajinikanth, who supported Kamal by appealing to the Muslim community to allow Kamal to release Vishwaroopam . He also has asked the Muslim representatives to sit with Haasan and discuss the issue and allow its release without affecting its storyline. He added that Kamal is no ordinary artiste but an extraordinary one who can take Tamil cinema to new levels Watch Promo: Vishwaroop
