Raanjhanaa to be released in Tamil version as well

21 May 2013

It is confirmed. Raanjhanaa would now also have a Tamil version making it to the theatres. Though were murmurs around this happening for last 6-7 months, the makers were keeping a stoic silence around this. However, as per the recent developments, there was a plan in place to bring the film for the South audience as well and now it has taken a final shape.

"There would be two versions of the film, Hindi and Tamil. While the promotion of Raanjhanaa has already moved into the third gear, audience would soon be getting a glimpse of what the Tamil version would look like," informs a source.

The Tamil version has been titled Ambikapathy. Incidentally, a Tamil film with the same title was released over half a century ago which had none other than Sivaji Ganesan in the lead.

" Raanjhanaa has an entirely different storyline from the Sivaji Ganesan film though," the source adds, "The only similarity is that both films are love stories." The decision to bring the film in Tamil was pretty much on the cards since Dhanush has an immense fan base in South. Moreover, the film has music by A.R. Rahman which can be comfortably moulded for the South audience. Incidentally, this would be first time ever that Sonam Kapoor would be seeing a film of hers release in Tamil.

When contacted, producer Krishika Lulla confirmed that the Tamil version Ambikapathy was on. Watch Promo: Raanjhanaa
