Makers of Rooh Afza seek apology from Dharma

16 Jul 2013

While the BO success of the film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has brought smile to every name associated with the film, there is one 'name' which has been seen frowning because of the film: 'Rooh Afza'. The makers of the popular drink Rooh Afza, who were really miffed with the way the brand was 'projected' in the film, has now sought an apology from the producers of the film.

The counsel for Hamdard National Foundation reasoned to the Delhi High Court stating that even though the objectionable dialogues against the product have been removed from the DVD and TV versions of the film, they still need an apology for projecting their 100 year old brand in a bad light. They added that they wanted somebody from the company to make a statement (about the apology). They also added that they won't stay quiet till the film's makers apologize for the whole episode. They supported their stand by stating the 'Article 19 of the Indian Constitution' does not protect them (the film's makers) if they ridicule anyone. On the other hand, Dharma Productions' advocate explained their stand stating that while they have deleted all references to the said brand from their DVD and TV versions, and that the theatrical version has been already released what the need for an apology is when they never did it in an intention to ridicule the brand.

Meanwhile, the court (which had restrained Dharma from releasing the film on TV on the grounds of 'objectionable dialogues') have now asked both the sides to either resolve their disputes, else file their written submissions on the said matter in four weeks.
