Ekta, Ajay, Akshay set for a clash next Independence Day

5 Sep 2013

Between Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara, Ekta Kapoor managed to build good relationship with both Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. However, she could well be finding herself sitting across the table with both the actors next year, courtesy the ever prevailing issue of release dates. While it may have seemed that her recent tryst with Independence Day release was a one off instance of leaving a bad taste in her mouth, she has made her intentions clear of making it big on the same date next year.

"Akshay Kumar has already announced the arrival of Gabbar on August 15 next year. On the other hand, Ajay Devgn too has sounded off all involved that Singham 2 would arrive on the same date. However they do have company, what with Balaji and Dharma Productions eyeing the same date for their yet untitled Emraan Hashmi-Kareena Kapoor affair," informs a source.

This pretty much means that at least a two way, if not a three way clash is in the offering. Though Ajay has been the first to admit that he would want to avoid any such clash, one still wonders whether it would be him who would be the first to move away or someone else.

"Even though OUATIMD and Chennai Express were separated by a week, the turbulence was felt due to two biggies arriving so close to each other. When even back to back releases had such repercussions, one can well imagine the mayhem that may be caused if two biggies arrive on Independence Day next year. The clash has to be avoided by all means but who would blink first is the million dollar question. Pun intended," a filmmaker quips.

Ironically it would turn out to be yet another incident of Ekta Kapoor and Rohit Shetty finding themselves in a ring. While the director had kept his distance from the brouhaha that surrounded that clash of his Chennai Express with Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara , he is expected to maintain the same stance for Singham 2 as well. As for Gabbar, producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali could well be readying for the battle that may ensue, what with the combined power of Ekta Kapoor and Karan Johar riding on the front foot, considering they were the ones who had announced the release plans before everyone else.

Meanwhile one waits to see what is going on in the mind of Emraan Hashmi who could well be enjoying his first ever holiday release if his film indeed makes it to the much coveted spot.

We tried contacting Balaji but there was no official word from them.
