PIL filed against Ram Leela

8 Oct 2013

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh seems to have hit yet another hurdle. After the film's music launch was delayed due to Ranveer's illness, we hear that a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was filed against the film on Monday. The said petition that demands a ban on the release of the film, states that the film provokes enmity between communities, hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus and shows women in a disrespectful manner.

Filed by lawyer Siddhrajsinh Chudasama, the PIL has added six entities as respondents to the petition which includes Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Information Department of the Gujarat government, Central Board of Film Certification, Film Censor Board, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and producer Kishore Lulla.

According to the petitioner, from the trailers of the film, it is evident that it is a love story between a Rabari boy and a Darbar-Rajput girl. The PIL alleges that abusive language and indecent gestures have been shown in the film, and showing a Darbar girl using foul language is disrespectful to women of the Darbar community.

The PIL is expected to be heard by the concerned bench of High Court this week.
