CBFC refuses to air Race 2 on Doordarshan

31 Jul 2014

After more than a year of its release, Race 2 faces censor troubles owing to its racy content. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has denied the permission to air this Saif Ali Khan starrer on Doordarshan. However, this is not the first time that a Bollywood film has faced this issue. Previously many films like The Dirty Picture have been under the censorship radar for months owing to its bold content.

Race 2 was one of the most successful films of 2013 and the certification given to the film during the time of release was U/A which means that children above 12 years of age are allowed to view the content. However, due to the stringent rules of the Censor Board, they refused to air the film on Doordarshan stating that the content is not suitable for audience viewing and the theme of the film is titillating.

Producer of Race 2, Ramesh Taurani even approached the higher authorities including the Examining and Revising Committee and even Tribunal but the decision remained the same. Disappointed over this issue, Taurani revealed that as a producer he is bound to suffer minor loss on the satellite revenue but he has accepted this decision.

CBFC CEO Rakesh Kumar has maintained his stand and has claimed that Race 2 will not be screened on Doordarshan.

Directed by Abbas - Mustan, Race 2 is a sequel to Race that stars Saif Ali Khan along with John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel.

Race 2 is a continuation of its prequel which starred Bipasha Basu as Saif's lover and in his attempt to avenge the death of his lover (Bipasha), Saif decides to enter the brutal world of Indian mafia who are ruling Turkey with the help of his partner Anil Kapoor.
