Finding Fanny faces dialogue trouble in Karnataka

12 Sep 2014

Finding Fanny is slated to release this week and just a day before its release, the film got into trouble for a dialogue that too not a vulgar one. Apparently, a scene where Arjun Kapoor uses the word 'mental' has offended the people of Karnataka.

Finding Fanny has a scene where Arjun Kapoor and his troop that includes Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Deepika Padukone who are out on a quest to find Naseer's lost love Stephanie Fernandez (aka Fanny) take the wrong direction and enter the state of Karnataka. When Dimple questions Arjun about their whereabouts, in a fit of rage, Arjun replies that they are in a mental state. The dialogue which represents the frustration that the passengers face after they lose their way has left the people of Karnataka miffed. They believe that the usage of the word 'mental' is degrading to their state and hence has demanded to chop off the dialogue.

Director Homi Adajania recently expressed his shock over this issue and even exclaimed that despite the Censor Board giving a clean chit to his film, Finding Fanny is still facing crisis. He also further added that this was a minor thing and it is only about a word that describes the mental condition of the actors in that situation.

However, in order to avoid any more controversies, the makers have decided to dub over Arjun's rant so that whatever he says gets overlapped by the next dialogue.

Prior to this, a PIL was filed in Delhi owing to the usage of the word 'Fanny' in the title since its dictionary meaning is explicit but the Supreme Court overruled the plea and allowed the makers to retain the original title. Also, there was a long battle that the makers had to fight due to the word 'virgin' which the Censor wasn't approving in the initial stage.

Finding Fanny is a quirky drama produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. It is slated to release on September 12.
