Rekha to take on Shah Rukh Khan next Friday

29 Oct 2014

As expected Happy New Year has taken an unprecedented opening, leaving the competition gasping for breath.

The buzz in the film trade suggests that some of the Hindi and Hollywood films lined up for the coming Friday are now shying away from release.

The two big Hollywood releases next week the Brad Pitt war saga Fury and the Ben Affleck mystery thriller Gone Girl find it hard to get a decent number of shows at viewer-friendly times.

A spokesperson from a leading multiplex chain said, "Considering their cast and high-profile release globally Gone Girl and Fury would under normal circumstances, get major releases. But Happy New Year is expected to sustain significantly in the second week. There are three Hindi and three Hollywood releases lined up for next week. Some of them would have to be either be postponed or relegated to odd timings.

Happy New Year will rule the second week. Films that come in the way will suffer." The only filmmaker who seems unperturbed by the King Khan explosion is Indra Kumar.

He is confident there are enough people out there to welcome Rekha in her comeback film. " Happy New Year is an entirely different world from my Super Nani . You can't compare Mars with Venus. Just as there are different patrons for Italian and Thai cuisine, there is a different audience for the two films." Indu is confident there is an ample audience for Super Nani . "Either people who have seen Happy New Year and would like another experience in the coming week. Or people who would rather see my film which is about family values. Mine is a very Indian film."
