Vir Das - Kunaal Roy Kapur's Golu Aur Pappu finds a sudden release this Friday

19 Nov 2014

Now this one has caught everyone by surprise.

Golu Aur Pappu , which is seemingly Bollywood's own 'desi' version of Dumb & Dumber, is seeing a 'mute' release for itself. No pun intended. In the times, when even the smallest of films find some coverage in press and other media formats, such silent is the arrival of this Kabir Sadanand directed affair that even he is not aware of the conversations that would have led to the decision of such discreet release for his comedy.

"I too just happened to come across the film's poster where they have announced November 21 as the arrival date. I have no idea what has led to this," says Kabir in a distraught tone.

Though the film is a comedy, it isn't making anyone associated with it, laugh. The film features Delhi Belly actors Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur, who have shown their flair for comedy in quite a few outings but the smiles aren't quite around as far as Golu Aur Pappu is concerned. "The film was completed around a couple of years. No one really knew what led to it being stuck in the cans for so long," a source adds, "Meanwhile Kabir went on to finish and release Fugly , which did have its moments, though its run was cut short by the good run of Akshay Kumar's Holiday . Nevertheless, Kabir went on to begin work on his other film while Vir and Kunaal too continued with their other acting assignments. Though delay of the film's release meant that interest of many associated with it was waning away, no one really thought that eventually when it would arrive, the manner would be so mild." Apparently Viacom 18, which has produced the film, isn't giving away too many details about this sudden decision and is keeping mum. On his end, Kabir too has resigned to his fate.

"As a director my job is to make a film and deliver the final copy. I have done that by finishing the film a while ago and since then it has been up to the producers to release it. It is their decision eventually," shrugs away Kabir.

Meanwhile one wonders how is Dimple Kapadia reacting to the arrival of the film, especially after gaining quite some acclaim for her last major release, Finding Fanny, which had arrived amidst much fanfare just a few weeks back.
