Shreyas Talpade summoned to court in a cheque bouncing case

3 Dec 2014

Actor Shreyas Talpade, who had recently produced the runaway hit Marathi film Poshter Boyz, was taken to court by Jash Shah (of Kaichi Productions) over a disagreement related to payment and also credits. Yesterday, Shreyas went to the 33rd Magistrate Court at Ballard Pier, along with wife Dipti. Incidentally, Shah and Talpade are both directors of their company 'Affluence Movies'.

Lawyer Tushar Gujjar (of Solicis Lex), who represented Shah, said that despite Shreyas Talpade utilizing the VFX services of his client, he not only defaulted on the payment, but also didn't give them credit. Shreyas, on his part, reasoned that it's a ploy used by Shah to defame him. He clarified that since the said VFX company did a shoddy job; their name was excluded from the film's credits. Shah said that because the payment of Rs. 50,000 had bounced, he had to file a case against Talpade.

In his complaint, Shah also stated that post the film's release, Shreyas feigned ignorance about not just the remaining amount, but also faltered to clear the service tax amount in the invoice. To that, Shreyas clarified that the cheque had bounced because of a technical problem in the date line and not because of funds' insufficiency. He added that, he issued another cheque which was cleared immediately.

And when the matter came up for hearing yesterday, the Talpades were asked to provide a cash bail bond of Rs. 5000 each. While Tushar Gujjar said that the matter is sub-judice, Shah is now reportedly asking for not just the aforementioned Rs 50,000, but also the balance amount of Rs. 1,23,013 which was allegedly been agreed upon during the commencement.
