15 Apr 2015

Though he started off with miniscule roles, today, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has become one of the prime choices for filmmakers. The actor, who was recently applauded for his performance in Badlapur, has decided to now turn producer. However, unlike others who enter mainstream cinema as producers, this actor has decided to bankroll a short film.

His first short film is Miyaan Kal Aana, a 17 minute directorial by his brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui. The said film will be screened at the Cannes festival, but, it will not be a part of the competition. From what we hear, the film is about a regressive Muslim custom wherein if a man has to remarry his wife whom he had divorced, she will have to get her married to another man, who later will divorce her only after which they will be allowed to re-marry.

Filmmaker Shamas mentioned that such rituals are followed even today in his village, which inspired him to take up this issue as a subject for his film. He not only expressed his gratitude towards his brother who supported him financially for the film but was also overjoyed about the fact that the film made to Cannes.
