Welcome Back gets 15 cuts, UA certificate

2 Sep 2015

Anees Bazmee's new comic romp Welcome Back has got itself a 'UA' certificate from the censor board. But only after being subjected to many verbal cuts, 15 in all.

Says a source in the know, "The Welcome Back team had already come to the project with some scenes that they had deleted themselves. The original length of the film was 170 minutes. It was reduced voluntarily to 153 minutes by the film's team before it was submitted to the censor board." However, the censor board still found many words objectionable. They ordered 15 cuts.

When contacted director Anees Bazmee said, "The cuts the censor board has asked for are all verbal...words like saala have been asked to be deleted, which we've happily done. However, some other cuts, we're trying to explain to the censor board why the words are there. Every member of the censor board knows my films don't have any double meanings and vulgar dialogues. So many cuts seem a little extreme."
