Essel Vision backs out of three film deal with Sanjay Gupta?

13 Oct 2015

Earlier we had reported that Essel Vision, the creative and production studio of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEE), announced a multi-film deal to make its foray into mainstream commercial Hindi films, with Sanjay Gupta's White Feather Films, of which the first was the recently released Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - Irrfan Khan starrer Jazbaa. However, now we hear that Essel Vision has apparently backed out of the deal.

In fact we hear that the reason Essel Vision backed out was the poor ROI (Return On Investment) of Jazbaa at the box office, taking into consideration the cost of production as well as recoveries the film has had till date, due to it failing to entice the audience. Compounding the film's lack luster performance (as per their estimates), the previous week's release Talvar and the Hollywood release The Walk went a long way in damaging Jazbaa's overall box office appeal.

However, Sanjay Gupta denies the development saying, "Nothing of this sort is happening. Our deal still stands and yes I will be making two more films for Essel Vision. However, since the deal was not an exclusive one, my next will be with a different production house and it won't even be under my banner of White Feather Films."
