Rajkumar Santoshi to make Battle of Saragarhi next

26 Jul 2016

It was only a month ago when filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi had confirmed that he would be reuniting with Salman Khan for his next project after 21 years. It was learned was to be produced by Salman Khan's brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri and was supposed to go on floors after Kabir Khan's Tubelight. But, it seems like it won't be happening anytime soon.

Since the untitled film is put on hold, Rajkumar Santoshi will kick off another film titled Battle of Saragarhi instead. He will be directing the period drama for Wave Cinemas which will kick off on September 12. The story will present the Battle of Saragarhi which was fought on September 12, 1897, between the British Indian Army and the Afghan Orakzai tribesmen in North-West India. The Indian contingent comprising 21 Sikhs of the 36th Sikhs were stationed at an army post when they were attacked by 10,000 Afghanis. The battle was led by Havildar Ishar Singh and was one of the history's greatest battles. In the honour of the battle and the lives lost, the Sikhs pay tribute celebrating the Saragarhi Day on September 12 every year.

Battle of Saragarhi will be shot on a large scale and their plan is to recreate the 1800s era with lavish sets. The film will have 21 heroes and the cast is still being finalized.
