Actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan, who has starred in several Hindi films before moving to South Industry, will be awarded the Chevalier de L'Ordre Arts et Letters (The Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French government, as part of France's premiere award.

The prestigious award recognizes the eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.

Kamal Haasan was recently in news as he was ill and was admitted for the same. Talking about receiving this honour, a spokesperson of Kamal Haasan said that the distinction, which was yet another laurel for the actor, was in recognition of his high level of artistic excellence and his distinguished career achievements. Kamal Haasan will be felicitated with the honour at a special ceremony.

This won't be the first time an Indian actor is receiving such a prestigious honour. Other Indian recipients of the award include late Tamil actor Sivaji Ganeshan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nandita Das and Shah Rukh Khan.
