Aishwarya Rajinikanth turns UN Women's advocate for Gender Equality

While several actors and actresses are associated with the prestigious United Nations for various causes, the new name added to the list of celebrities is that of Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Being the daughter of South megastar Rajinikanth and also a popular filmmaker, Aishwarya has now been appointed as the Women's advocate for Gender Equality.

The announcement made by U.N. Secretary General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri, also added that Aishwarya, also a renowned dancer, has been an inspiration to several women down South. While the main objective, according to Ms. Puri, is to bring about 50-50 balance in the world when it comes to gender equality, she added that definitely Aishwarya will take them a step ahead in achieving this goal. On the other hand, Aishwarya acknowledged this opportunity as an honour and her father Rajinikanth expressed his pride and happiness over his daughter's association with UN.

Besides her, several other celebrities from India which includes, multi-talented filmmaker, actor, singer, lyricist, writer Farhan Akhtar and tennis star Sania Mirza are a part of this campaign. Also, British actress Emma Watson, renowned Hollywood star Anne Hathaway have joined hands for the same.
