Over the years Lata Mangershkar has enthralled us with her voice that has given life to numerous melodies. Well celebrating her voice was the Bangabibhushan award which was to be conferred on the veteran singer. However, now we hear that the said award conferment scheduled for October 20, has been postponed due to Mangeshkars illness. Commenting on the same Saregama India chairman Sanjiv Goenka stated that due to Lata Mangeshkar being indisposed, the forthcoming conferment of Banga Bibhushan to her at her residence in Mumbai on October 20 has been deferred. Though what ails the veteran singer is yet unknown, the award itself that was set up in 2011, has earlier been awarded to danseuse Amala Shankar, sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, renowned singer Manna Dey, author Mahasweta Devi, footballer Sailen Manna, hockey Olympian Leslie Claudius, painter Jogen Chowdhury, writer Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, filmmaker Goutam Ghosh, Hindustani classical music exponent Ajoy Chakraborty and former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.
