Face-off between multiplexes & 1921 producers resolved; Satellite telecast only after 8 weeks
Threemultiplex chains for long accused ofarm-twistingby producers over the satellite telecastdates, havejust won a big victory. A major confrontation betweenfour prominentmultiplex chains andtheproducers oftheVikramBhattdirected supernatural film wasresolvedon Fridayafternoon. But, only after thefilms release washaltedacross the multiplex chains namely,Cinepolis,PVR,Inoxand Carnival. Thebone ofcontention betweenthe two parties wasthe satellite rights of the film. Themultiplexes wanted to be telecastonly aftertwo months of the theatrical release. Apparently, afterboycottingthe multiplexes, the films producers have given in to what they earlier referred to as arm-twisting. will be telecast on satellite channelsonly8weeks afterits theatrical release. Both directorVikramBhattandproducersof ,Reliance Entertainmentwould say nothing beyond claimingthat its all sorted. But the question is, at whatcost? Aprominentrepresentative from a multiplex chain says, They (the producers) have agreedto hold back satellite telecast for 8 weeks. Thats two monthsfrom the dateof release. This will apply not only to but all Hindi releases, big or small. 1921 openedin the four boycotted multiplex chains from5 pmon Friday.
