OMG! Soha Ali Khans production, a biopic on Ram Jethmalani is in legal trouble

26 Apr 2017

Renowned Indian lawyer and politician Ram Jethmalani who has been involved in some of the most controversial cases has a film being made on him. However, even before the details have been locked, the biopic on the legal icon has been trapped into a legal battle over ownership rights on his life story. Reportedly, producer Raj Khan has accused actress Soha Ali Khan and her brother-actor Saif Ali Khan of hijacking his work and has sent notices to the duo along with producer Ronnie Screwvala who too is supposedly involved in the project. According to these reports, Raj Khan has alleged that he started making a film on the lawyer and has invested almost three years of effort, money and resources in the said project. But when he came across Soha announcing the same project under her production banner Renegade Films, he was left shocked over the turn of events. While he did confront Ram Jethmalani who had lent him the rights, he received a response by the lawyer stating that he mistook them to be associated with Raj Khan and had lent the rights to them by signing an agreement with them. On the other hand, Raj was promised by Jethmalani where he had allegedly stated that the former is allowed to touch upon any aspect of the lawyers life. Raj is now fighting the case with Supreme Court lawyer Ravi Bakshi by his side. On the other hand, he also added that he had considered the possibility of collaborating with Soha and the others since they were the biggies in the industry but it seems they refused to accept the offer. On the other hand, the legal team of Ronnie Screwvala asserted that the rights have been procured and the legal procedure has been followed. Sweta Bansal, who is Sohas lawyer as well as the advisor for Ronnie and Ram Jethmalanis team too has voiced out similar thoughts where she has assured that it is indeed Sohas team who hold the media rights to Jethmalanis life. While she did confirm that the parties have received the notices sent by Raj Khan, she further added that they hold no merit. Besides, she also maintained that Soha and Ram Jethmalanis agreement is dated back to February 2016. Also, Jethmalanis team has apparently responded to Khans allegations by sending out a letter that clearly states that it is Soha and her husband Kunals team who hold the rights to the lawyers life story. Although they have green lit the film of Raj Khan by asking him to use the information available on public domain, they have further mentioned that there will be no inputs from Ram Jethmalani himself for the film. Even the lawyers secretary Sanjay Ahluwalia confirmed about the legal agreement that was chalked between Renegade Films [Sohas production] and Ram Jethmalani.
