18 Apr 2024

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 18 : Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga slammed actor Adil Hussain for calling his 2019 film 'Kabir Singh' as 'misogynistic.'Adil had told the YouTube channel AP Podcast that he agreed to do Kabir Singh without reading the script, calling it the only film he regrets being a part of.In his recent interview, Adil said that he regret being part of the film and it didn't go well with the filmmaker. Now, he has hit back at the actor and said that, "Ur 'belief' in 30 art films didn't get as much fame to u as ur 'regret' of 1 BLOCKBUSTER film."Ur 'belief' in 30 art films didn't get as much fame to u as ur 'regret' of 1 BLOCKBUSTER film did I regret casting u,knwing that ur greed is bigger than ur passion. NOW I'll save U from the shame by replacing Ur face with AI help Now smile properly Sandeep Reddy Vanga (@imvangasandeep) April 18, 2024In his appearance on YouTube channel AP Podcast, Adil said, "That's the only film in my life that I have done without reading the script, without seeing the movie which it is based on.""I went and did it and I liked the scene. The scene I did is a good scene, so I thought the film was also going to be good. So I went to watch the film and I thought, 'What am I doing here?' You have no idea how I felt. I felt so embarrassed.""I regret it till today. The only movie I have regretted doing is that film... Kabir Singh," he added. He shared what made him embarrassed being part of the film and said, "I think a film like this celebrates something which is not beneficial for society. It legitimises male misogyny. It legitimises violence against anybody, for that matter, doesn't have to be a woman. And it celebrates it, it glorifies it, and it should not be glorified."'Kabir Singh' is the Hindi remake of Telugu hit 'Arjun Reddy'. The original blockbuster starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey.Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also directed the original film, 'Kabir Singh' tells the story of a short-tempered surgeon Kabir Singh (Shahid) who goes on a path of self-destruction, consuming drugs and alcohol after he cannot marry the love of his life Preeti (Kiara). The film also stars Soham Majumdar, Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi, Nikita Dutta and Kamini Kaushal in pivotal roles.Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani, Krishan Kumar, and Ashwin Varde, the film was released on June 21, 2019.

Adil Hussain recalls how Sridevi got teary-eyed during their first meeting on sets of 'English Vinglish'

1 Nov 2023

Recently, actor Adil Hussain took a stroll down memory lane and shared his experience working with Sridevi in 'English Vinglish', which was directed by Gauri Shinde. In the film, Adil essayed the role of Sridevi's husband.Speaking to ANI, Adil recalled how Sridevi got teary-eyed during the duo's first meeting on the film's set."'English Vinglish' was my third film and maybe it was Sridevi's 300th film ... I have never thought that I would ever act with Sridevi because it was never on my radar. I remember how her film 'Sadma' impacted me so much. When I watched it I could not eat for one and a half days. I vividly remember meeting her on the sets of 'English Vinglish'... when I met her and Gauri and Balki introduced me to her, she looked at me with her big beautiful eyes. The first thing I told her was that how I could not eat anything after watching Sadma...After listening to it, she had tears in her eyes and I don't know why. She had a little soft moist eyes and then we got busy with rehearsals," he recalled."She was quite sensitive. I would put her at par with Meryl Streep. Had she been given the scripts and facilitated with writing and stories that West had, she probably could have won an Oscar. She was an amazing listener," Adil shared.Sridevi's last film was 'Mom'.

Adil Hussain shares how work culture is different in Hollywood and Bollywood

1 Nov 2023

Adil Hussain has a wide range of films to his name, including internationally acclaimed works like 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' and 'Life of Pi'.The actor, who is renowned for his refined acting abilities and diversified, unconventional performances, talked about the culture of filmmaking in India and abroad.During a conversation with ANI, he shared how acting style in Hollywood is influenced by the climate. When asked if you have to work in Hollywood, do you need to change your work style, he said, "It depends. Like one of my works hasn't been released in India unfortunately. It was an Italian film, 'Gangor' based on Mahasweta Devi's story. The movie was directed by an Italian director and an Italian production. So, it is an English film when I started acting, the director asked me, 'Move your hands, you are from India, it's not a cold country. Don't act like a Hollywood actor.'"Briefing more on how cold climate is related to the style of acting, he added, "The genre of acting in European films or Hollywood films is influenced by their climate. As it is cold, there is less body movement and they don't prefer to speak much unlike India."On his experience during the shoot of 'Life of Pi', Hussain recalled the meticulous planning, professionalism and discipline and how filmmaking is different in Hollywood and Bollywood. "In terms of the culture of filmmaking there is a huge difference. I got my script three months before and the driver was scheduled two months before the shoot started in Taiwan," he said. The 2012 adventure-drama film 'Life of Pi' was written by David Magee and directed by Ang Lee. It is based on Yann Martel's 2001 novel of the same name and features Adil Hussain, Gerard Depardieu, Tabu, Rafe Spall, Irrfan Khan, and Suraj Sharma in the key parts. "The film worked well because of its story, technique and meticulous planning.""So, when I say 99 per cent of films made in India are mediocre, it is not because of lack of talent but because of people who make decisions on finance. Here is talent but the execution of creative planning is mess. They have to understand that it is 80 per cent creativity and 20 percent business but here it happens other way round," he added.Talking about OTT projects and a number of good projects coming up, he said, "It is like a drop in the ocean not every film. We have to give them concession, "India ke hisaab se acha hai". Why? We have amazing stories. Make Mahabharata which will eat up almost all the cinema halls in the world. Each and every chapter can become a story."

In a high-stakes battle for power, Arjun is tested time and again by those around him. Adil Hussain gets candid about India hosting G20 and his film Footprints on Water

3 Sep 2023

Adil Hussain has a wide range of films to his name, including internationally acclaimed works like The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Life of Pi.The actor, who is renowned for his refined acting abilities and diversified, unconventional performances, talked about his Nathalia Syam-directed movie, Footprints on Water and India hosting the G20 summit for the first time.He told ANI, I wish it is G143 because G20 and I would prefer 100 or 210 countries of the world have come together then we can truly say Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam because when we look at the world as one then only we can find the solutions to all the problems that we are facing including population problem, explosion, climate change, wars, transmigration of people, so I think it's a great sign that we Indians are hosting G20 summit and I think India can probably do way more by including more countries. The film was screened at the G20 Film Festival which was held at India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi. While talking about his association with the film and his role, he said, I am pretty good with debut directors because, especially because of their enthusiasm for their first project, they put in a lot of hard work, especially in a subject like this that is mostly unspoken about mostly. Generally, audiences get to see rosy pictures of European countries and rarely get to see the plight and dark realities of immigrants living there. He praised the director and said, What I like about Nathalia was the way she was genuine, her knowledge about the subject and she was open to improvisation and suggestions. She wanted to tell a story and not just become popular.I acted since childhood but didnt get paid for 30 years, still I continue to act because I love acting I expect art makers to be like that. If you want to become famous then you should do something else. For art to be responsible for what you say and show to society you must not say something that divides the society but unites the society as art is meant to bring people together, he added. The film is all about illegal immigrants living in UK and Adil, plays the role of Raghu, a small-scale business owner in India, who fled to the UK with his wife and daughter after being mired in a financial scam. However, the life that waited for them in the UK was far from perfect. When asked if somewhere he relates to his character, he replied, In India we all are immigrants. I travelled from Assam to Delhi and found a culture that was completely different from my hometown. Similarly, I went to Kerala to learn Kathakali and found an altogether different culture, language and food. So, I relate to Raghu and his emotions in the film. I have seen NRC (National Register of Citizens) being imposed in Assam and how people there have to show documents to prove their citizenship. I saw their pain because many of them didnt have the documents as they were washed away in floods. Indeed, I relate to Raghu. The actor who has been part of mainstream cinema, spoke about Bollywood and said, I am happy people are returning to cinema halls but it is important that we focus on content and make films that are inspired by the great saints of India and their message of compassion, love, empathy, respect, integrity and other qualities. If we aspire to become vishwa guru, cinema can play an important role, he said. The actor opened up about his next projects and said, There are many projects which I cannot discuss much. I am nostalgic about the film in which I will be working with someone who was 14 years old when I worked with her mother long back. Another movie was The Second Chance which is about mime art which is not getting due respect globally and in India.

Prakash Raj, Adil Hussain, Harsh Chhaya's thriller 'Mukhbir - The Story of a Spy' trailer out

31 Oct 2022

'Mukhbir - The Story of a Spy' is the untold story of India's secret agent who led India to evade several aggressive advances from the enemy country by providing intelligence and by helping India win the 1965 war.Produced by Victor Tango Entertainment, the series spans across 8 episodes and is a tribute to those unsung heroes who live in the shadows and give their life for the safety of the country. This series is an intimate look into the sacrifices they make for their country without ever being named or celebrated. As seen in the trailer, 'Mukhbir - The Story of a Spy' has a solid ensemble cast consisting of veteran actors like Prakash Raj, Adil Hussain and Harsh Chhaya and newcomers including Zain Khan Durrani and Zoya Afroz. The show is an edgy spy thriller as it unfolds the fate of India at a time when the country could not afford one more war and its future depended on one risky mission led by a secret agent in an enemy country.Helmed by Shivam Nair, who is known for films like 'Naam Shabana' and 'Special Ops', in association with Jayprad Desai.Talking about the film director Shivam Nair and Jayprad Desai said, "In India, we haven't dabbled much in the genre of 'Historical Fiction'. Mukhbir, set against the backdrop of the 1965 Indo-Pak war and inspired by true events tells a fictionalised story of an Indian spy whose information helped India win the war. With the limbs of spy thriller, Mukhbir at its heart is a human drama. While the unfolding of the plot will keep the audience glued to their screens, the inherent dilemma of a man torn in between his duty and heart will move them deeply. We are proud to lead this show that is special to all of us involved and we hope that Mukhbir touches the hearts of the viewers and leaves an everlasting impact on them".Prakash Raj shared, "Mukhbir celebrates the bravery and the sacrifices of the unsung heroes of India, the spies and I am glad to be a part of such a remarkable project. These spies go unnoticed despite their silent but monumental work and hence, Mukhbir is our tribute to their self-less efforts".Adil Hussain said, "I am especially inclined towards stories which move the viewers and inspires them to go beyond the ordinary. Mukhbir is one such story which will appeal to every Indian across the globe. Also, it was exciting to work with the talented director duo of Shivam Nair and Jayprad Desai who have notable experience and expertise in this genre".Zain Khan Durranisaid, "I could not have asked for a better project than Mukhbir to mark my OTT debut. I have grown up in Kashmir and have seen first-hand the challenges faced by the people during riots and wars so being a part of Mukhbir was even more emotional for me. The minute I read the script, I knew that I had to take it up as the character is so inspiring. Mukhbir is the story of a brave man who defied the odds and single-handedly enabled India to evade several aggressive advances from the enemy country during the 1965 war. The story not only explores his bravery but also his vulnerabilities which makes the character so endearing and real. I hope that the show strikes a chord with everyone connected to or belonging to our country". 'Mukhbir - The Story of a Spy' is all set to premiere exclusively on ZEE5 from November 11, 2022.
