Amit Kumar to make Kishore Kumar bio-pic

11 Aug 2021

With the great Kishore Kumars birth anniversary just gone by, the Ganguly parivar, sons Kishore and Sumi and wife Leena Chandavarkar, have taken a decision to produce and direct their own bio-pic on the life and times of the legendary singer-composer-actor-filmmaker.Many filmmakers have tried to process bio-pics on Kishore Kumar. These include Shoojit Sircar and Anurag Basu. But nothing came of it. Says Amit Kumar, It was always my intention that we do the biopic. After all who knows him (Kishore Kumar) better than his family?Prod the affable Amit more about the bio-pic and he says, Were about to start shooting the interviews with our family about my father.Amit thinks the shooting will take time. We know that the script will take at least a year to develop. Its a lot of hard work, and a long journey ahead.

I am in this world because of my parents, Aditya Narayan on his father calling him Childish

27 May 2021

Rather than support his son in his attempts to stand up for the show Indian Idol which was recently criticized by singer Amit Kumar, Udit Narayan has called his son Aditya childish for taking a stand.Sounding a bit hurt Aditya the protective son, says, Theek hai, sir. I am in this world because of my parents. The matter ends there. Har maa-baap ki nazar mein unka beta hamesha bachcha hi hota hai. I am honest to my work and will continue to be so. Not everyone has to agree with my view. And thats okay. However Aditya does feel hurt about how much of his time and effort he puts into Indian Idol and how little appreciation there is from some quarters for all the hard work that goes into it. I feel sad that the very people I try to entertain through Indian Idol forget that the pandemic has hit our household too. Like everyone else we too are worried and stressed. Were not a pandemic-proof family.Aditya says he has familial responsibilities which impel him to work hard. My parents are in the age-bracket of retirement. I have a wife now. Soon well have children. Ive a house to run and bills to pay. Setting my worries aside I work hard every day to bring a smile on the faces of the audience during these stressful times.

My shashtaang pranaam to all who are trolling me Aditya Narayan

24 May 2021

Updated: May 24, 2021 - 11:22 AM IST Indian Idol host Aditya Narayan has been receiving a lot of flak for taking a dig at singer Amit Kumar for criticizing the contestants on the show.Aditya says he is unfazed by the criticism. To all those who are trolling and lashing out at me I say, Shashtaang Pranaam to all and God bless you. I feel like that cheetah who wouldnt move to prove hes the fastest in a dog race. Sometimes trying to prove your point is an insult to your own intelligence and experience. This is how I feel while defending arguably the best collection of contestants on a reality show. Indian Idol is the no.1 reality show for 26 weeks running. Do I need to defend it?However Aditya is glad the contestants are learning to deal with flak at such a young age. Accha hai. They are getting to know the harsh reality of the world outside the reality show. As their fans grow, so will the critics. It is inevitable.Aditya who is stationed in Daman nowadays shooting for Indian Idol is in Mumbai for break. He says he likes being in Daman. I get to ride my Harley Davidson on the near-empty roads.

Aditya Narayan on Amit Kumars criticism of Kishore Kumar special

12 May 2021

Updated: May 12, 2021 - 12:00 PM IST Singer Amit Kumar who came as a special judge for the special edition of Indian Idol on his father the legendary Kishore Kumar, was not happy with the performances by the young Idol singers. In an interview immediately after the show Amit lashed out at the shows performances and expressed dissatisfaction with the calibre of homage paid to his father.Young singer Aditya Narayan (son of a legendary singer, just like Amit Kumar) who hosts the show spoke exclusively on Amit Kumars rather harsh opinion on the show. With all due respect to Amitji, it is never easy to honour the legacy of a legend in an hour or two. But we always try our level best to put on a great show especially given the circumstances. Due to the pandemic we were shooting in Daman with a limited team and crew, limited rehearsals, different set etc. Still week after week we are putting out fresh episodes where most other channels are playing re-runs of their content.Aditya (with due respects, of course) also wonders why Amit Kumar didnt express his unhappiness about the content while shooting. Amitji has graced the show on multiple occasions and has always praised our contestants as well as our team. This time also he was lavish in his praise. In fact he was kind enough to share so many personal stories on Kishore da and we enjoyed and cherished each one. If he wasnt happy with certain aspects of the show he could have just told us during shoot and we would have been more than happy to try and accommodate his inputs.Like they say, party poopers can rain on your parade any time.

Complaint filed against Javed Akhtar for his remarks on Delhi riots

5 Mar 2020

A complaint has been filed against lyricist Javed Akhtar for his remarks on the FIRs registered against suspended AAP corporator Tahir Hussain during the Delhi riots. The complaint was lodged at the Bihar court on Wednesday by Amit Kumar, a local advocate. Reportedly, the complainant alleged that Akhtar's remarks were seditious and promoted religious hatred. On February 27, Javed Akhtar who is vocal about his opinion took to Twitter and wrote, So many killed, so many injured, so many houses burned, so many shops looted so many people turned destitute but police has sealed only one house and looking for his owner. Incidentally, his name is Tahir. Hats off to the consistency of the Delhi police." "So convenient to misunderstand me. I am not asking why Tahir I am asking why ONLY Tahir. Why not even an FIR against those who have openly threatened violence in the presence of the police. Even the HC has reservations about the role police has played in this orgy of violence," he wrote. Exclusive: Amit Kumar to pen his father, legendary singer Kishore Kumars exciting biography, revealing aspects of his personal and professional life!

22 Aug 2019

Playback singer, actor, music director, lyricist, film story writer, film director, producer and screenwriter, Kishore Kumar Ganguly, was a multi-faceted personality, whose voice rules over hearts even today. Now, his son, versatile film playback singer, actor, entertainer, producer and director, Amit Kumar Ganguly, is all set to write his biography, revealing interesting and exciting information about his father, which hasnt been revealed yet. Earlier there was talk of Anurag Basu directing Ranbir Kapoor in Kishore Kumars biopic but the project is apparently, on hold. Says a trade source, Few knew the fabulous, scintillating personality that Kishore Kumar was. While some talked about him as being quirky with a sense of humour, apart from being a fabulous singer, he was an extremely intelligent, practical and kind-hearted man, who knew what he was saying and doing. His elder son, singer Amit Kumar, was one of the main judges in Sony Entertainment Televisions reality music show K For Kishore (2008). Amit Kumar also launched his own music production company, named Kumar Brothers Music, released many music videos on YouTube and sung many Bollywood and regional film songs since the 1970s, and worked closely with his father on many of his movies, so who better than him to pen his fathers biography? Amit Kumar plans to bring out some of those untold stories in his biography, including his marriages to some of the most beautiful actresses of India. Kishore Kumar was married to Ruma Guha Thakurta (Amit Kumars mother), Madhubala and Yogeeta Bali. Kishore Kumar was married to Leena Chandavarkar when he passed away leaving behind their young son Sumit Kumar. Buzz is, Sumit Kumar may also help in writing a few chapters in the book and music director-singer Bappi Lahiri who was very close to Kishore Kumar. The source adds that everything will be done with lots of research and presented in an extremely sensitive way that will preserve and respect the emotions of all those mentioned. There is no hurry to publish the biography and the research itself will take a few years. This will not be a scandalous, gossip-driven book at all, but one based on facts and meticulous research, and where Kishore Kumars friends and family may also be spoken to. Amit Kumar himself acted in many films directed by and starring his father, including Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein (1964), Door Ka Raahi (1971), Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi (1974), Shabhash Daddy (1979) and Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi (1982). Amit Kumar took over as director and completed the film, Mamta Ki Chhaon Mein , for release in 1989, after his fathers death (1987). Kishore Kumar was a prolific personality so his creative side as a director may also be highlighted in the book. While he was known to be strict about his payment process, there were those he gave away generously to and sometimes worked for free so all those aspects will be highlighted too. Amit Kumar has been approached by various publishing houses and is in the process of deciding which one to go ahead with. Once the deal is finalised, he will figure out the creative process.

Heres why Nawazuddin Siddiqui is not promoting Monsoon Shootout

14 Dec 2017

Nawazuddin Siddiqui whose extremely bright career hit a sleeping dog recently when his kiss-and-tell memoirs raised a stink, seems to have gone into the deep end. Determined to keep out of the public eye on the advice of his team and lawyers, Nawazuddin has decided not to promote his latest release, director Amit Kumar serial-killer thriller Monsoon Shootout in which he plays an axe-wielding serial killer. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, on the lookout for an image clean-up, has decided to stay away from all negativity, and that includes negative roles. Says a source, Nawaz now wants to stop playing dark scummy characters of rapists, serial killers, and other anti-social elements that he has been playing with habitual expertise since the beginning of his career. His focus at the moment is on cleaning up his image on and off screen. Manto , director Nandita Das biopic on the Urdu poet-writer Sadat Hassan Manto is a big move ahead for Nawazuddin in portraying heroes rather than outcastes. His entire focus at the moment is on playing and promoting Manto. Monsoon Shootout is an old commitment. The film was completed three years ago. As far as Nawazuddin Siddiqui is concerned, hes done with Monsoon Shootout long ago. However the producers of Monsoon Shootout have another story to tell. By this logic, the artistes of Pakeezah must have stayed away from all publicity since the film took twenty years to complete, says a source close to Monsoon Shootout.

Amit Kumar's tribute to his father Kishore

15 Oct 2012

Amit Kumar and his brother Sumit are just back from the US with their tribute concerts on Kishore Kumar. "We performed in Detroit and Chicago .We called the show 'Do Kishore'. We did it on a trial basis in the two American cities. Now that it has been accepted so wholeheartedly, we'll take our two 'Do Kishore' concerts to the rest of the world. We're already booked for 6 concerts in the US in April 2013. Then we'll take the concert all over India." The 'Do Kishore' concerts are Amit Kumar's brainchild. "We first did the 'Do Kishore' charity concert with us two brothers celebrating our father's memory through his music. In Kolkata on April 12 in 1992. Sumit was only 9 years old then. Many luminaries associated with my father, like Ashok Kumar and Rajesh Khanna were present at the show." Amit Kumar also has plans of making a film on his legendary father. "It was Bhaijaan (Mehmood) who suggested it. My brother and I had devised a skit where we both go to the moon and meet our father there. Mehmood suggested we make a film on that theme. That hasn't happened so far." Amit and Sumit are also on the verge of starting a music company named Kumar Brothers Music. "It will be an online company. I'd be putting out my own composition for my fans online. It won't be film music, but folk songs, semi-classical numbers...One of my compositions ' Zindagi Dard ' has been put out just to get a response. It's been well-received by my fans." The online recording company attained feasibility in Amit Kumar's mind due to the progressive paucity of offline music companies. "There's no company one can take one's music to. It isn't as though I'm attempting to compete with any music company. An online music company eliminates the need for mediators like a producer or a music- company executive. It's a direct connectivity between my creativity and my listeners. I know I have an audience. There are people who love my voice." Amit says he's done with film music. "What is there to sing in Hindi films? The greats that I worked with are dead or retired. The whole scenario has changed now. The music these days is cacophonic. I don't listen to the songs. And these item songs...so many of them and so boring! Some of today's composers claim that melody is back. Sorry, I don't hear it."
