Pooja Entertainment collaborates with Indias Recycle Man to recycle its production waste and minimize its carbon footprint

3 Jul 2021

The Heritage production house has created a trail-blazing precedent by joining hands with Indias celebrated Recycle Man, Dr. Binish Desai to recycle its production waste and minimize its carbon footprint.Producer Deepshikha Deshmukh who has bought the Recycle man on board and has championed greener sets devoid of single-use plastics as much as possible during the making of films like Coolie No. 1 and Bellbottom says, I was terribly anxious about what to do about the masks and PPE kits generated on sets. We wanted to take sustainability on our film sets to a different level and it is now wonderful to have Dr. Binish on board. He is an inspiring social entrepreneur working on industrial waste recycling and management and he will guide us about the various ways we can recycle and upcycle all of our production waste. Be it the construction material that is used to build structures on sets, the plastic used, PPE kits and masks, or even the sediments of tea and coffee left behind in cups, we will make sure that we make eco-sensitivity a part of our projects .The sustainability and zero waste philosophy will be extended to even Pooja Entertainments offices and Dr. Binish will act as a consultant for the production house and on films, they make in the future. He says, "This is the first time I am consulting a film production house. Pooja Entertainment's vision and commitment to change took me by complete surprise and I am very excited to see what we can do and how we can bring a change together. I have always said that the concept of "waste" does not exist in Nature. Waste is generated by irresponsible human consumption and it is our job to sustainably get rid of it. This is why I founded my company in 2016 that provides cost-effective eco-friendly technologies and solutions. I am very happy to be working with Pooja entertainment and I think, together we can initiate a positive shift and start a sustainability movement in the industry."

Jackky Bhagnani and sister Honey make sets of Varun Dhawan starrer Coolie No 1 plastic free

1 Sep 2019

Varun Dhawan is currently busy shooting for his film Coolie No 1 , and we cant wait to see the final film on the big screen. While the cast of the film is still shooting for the project, Jackky Bhagnani and sister Honey (Deepshikha Deshmukh) have come up with a novel way of doing their bit to save the environment. In fact, Jackky and Honey have developed Coolie No 1 branded steel bottles that have been given to the cast and crew members of the film in a bid to avoid using disposable plastic bottles. Sharing an image of the bottles and a note from the Bhagnanis, Varun Dhawan took to the micro blogging site Twitter saying, Thank u @honeybhagnani & @jackkybhagnani for making the sets of #CoolieNo1 plastic free. I urge all my peers to do this. Responding to Varun, Honey replied, Yayyyy thank u for helping us achieve it and for all ur super cool suggestions. To know more we caught up with Jackky Bhaganani who revealed, It was actually my sisters idea, she was the one who thought of it and came to me. Together we took it forward. Explaining her idea and its genesis, Honey said, Every day we use so much plastic, and on a film set each individual uses at least three plastic bottles. Now in the long run there are over a 1000 plastic bottles used during the period of a shoot schedule, given the number of people on sets. To avoid this I thought of using sippers made from stainless steel and aluminium that apart from being reusable are also something that we can use off sets. Further talking about the bottles, Honey continues, So keeping this in mind we came up with the Coolie No 1 inspired bottles, which apart from helping save the environment also becomes a kind of memorabilia for those working on the film. As for the film Coolie No 1 is being produced by the Bhagnanis and is directed by David Dhawan. Starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, the film is being readied for release in May 2020.
