The discordant notes in the musical Pandit family continue. Sibling composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit and singers Sulakshana and Vijayta Pandit are now gearing up for a long court battle for the murder of their eldest sibling Sandhya Singh. Ironically the prime suspect in this foul murder case is Sandhya's son Raghubir. The thought of the family's honour being so displayed in a courtroom is weighing heavily on the Pandits.
Says Lalit Pandit, "Yes, sadly there's going to be a court trial. And the family has to face it. Our slain sister Sandhya's son Raghubir has been charge-sheeted. The cops say they'll keep investigating further. But circumstantial evidence points to only one murder accused."
Tragically the eldest Pandit sibling singer Sulakshna Pandit, now of delicate mental health, is still in the dark about the gruesome developments in the family. Says Lalit, "She won't be able to handle the shock. We're going to protect her from the tragedy for as long as possible. Sulakshana Didi has always been a mother-figure to all us siblings. We owe everything to her. Every member of the family has achieved success because of Sulakshana Didi. Speaking for myself, I feel like a son when she is proud of me."
The Pandit family would still like to believe in Raghubir's innocence. "My family and I believe that he couldn't have done such a horrible thing. But we hear from people that Raghubir is a drug addict. And people under the influence of drugs are capable of any kind of behaviour."
Lalit says the cops seem certain of Raghubir's guilt. "There is no other suspect as far as the cops are concerned. They are also sure that he was not alone in the crime."
The Pandit family has decided to stand together and give Raghubir a chance to prove his innocence. Says Lalit, "We've decided to watch the trial. But we won't appoint a lawyer against Raghubir. From our side we'll give him a fair chance to prove his innocence. If he has not committed the crime we are hoping he'd come out of this trial unhurt. We are worried about what happens if Raghubir is proven innocent. Would the investigations come to a dead end?"
Last seen together in Damini, Paresh Rawal and Rishi Kapoor will be sharing the screen space in an untitled film directed by Sanjay Chhel.
The film is supposedly a complete family entertainer with elements of comedy. The cast has already completed 15 days of its shoot and a major chunk is said to be shot in Mumbai. Also, on the music front, music director Lalit Pandit has already completed the recording of three songs.
Apart from the veteran stars, the movie also stars Vir Das, Divya Seth, Bharati Achrekar and will release in early 2014.
As the police have begun to treat Raghuveer Pandit alias Bhola as a prime suspect in his mother's gruesome murder, the Pandit family braces itself for what could turn out to be an indelible slur on the family of musicians, namely sister Sulakshana and Vijayta Pandit, brothers Jatin, Lalit and Mandar.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Lalit Pandit says, "We're very happy with the way the police has been investigating the case. Himanshu Roy (Mumbai Police's Joint Commissioner) is doing a thorough job. They have one by one eliminated all other suspects. And now we are very disturbed because our nephew Bhola (Raghuveer) is a prime suspect. It is very distressing to have this calamity befall the family. We all have begun to think like crime investigators after our sister's murder. And we wonder if our nephew is capable of this unimaginable crime."
Apparently, Raghuveer has been keeping the wrong company and is heavily into drugs.
Says Lalit, "Bhola is being thoroughly investigated. Bhola's friends are also been investigated. Some of them are from good families but have bad reputations because of their drug habits. Like a lot of junkies, Bhola is a compulsive liar. He has told us many lies and many of his statements to the police are contradictory. He keeps changing his statements all the time."
Apparently, Raghuveer has been in a relationship with a girl who is apparently also a junkie. Under this girl's influence, Raghuveer has been experimenting with expensive drugs.
According to sources, Raghuveer's girlfriend is also in the net of suspicion. Says Lalit softly, "As we all know, drug users are the most desperate people in the world. They can do anything for money. Bhola's father Jayaprakash Singh was very strict in controlling Bhola's budget to discourage his drug habits. However Jayaprakashji, a police officer, was posted in Indore. My sister Sandhya lived with her daughter and son in Mumbai. Sandhya couldn't control Bhola. He used to quarrel violently with his mother. We are hoping and praying Bhola is not directly involved in the crime."
Apparently, police investigations have unearthed wide discrepancies in Raghuveer's statements. It has so far been believed that the murdered woman was last seen at the bank where she was apparently dropped off by a friend. Apparently, police investigations have now revealed that Sandhya proceeded from the bank to home she owned in Bhimshankar apartments, quite close to her other home in the NRI colony where Sandhya stayed with her family.
On the fateful day, Sandhya proceeded from the bank to her residence in Bhimshankar. Says Lalit, "We now know that Sandhya was last seen at Bhimshankar. So far, we were not aware of this. The police have told us that she interacted with someone at Bhimshankar and that she was looking unwell .We don't know what happened after that."
