I got to boss around kids half my age, while making a film about students. What else do I want in life?"Talking about the film, Vikrant Massey said, "My experience on this film was phenomenal... probably the best experience I ever had. It is one of the most special stories that I am a part of... and also one of the most challenging parts that I had to play. I'm really, really excited. "No compromise this time" - Manoj Kumar

4 Apr 2013

This time Manoj Kumar is determined to see his lawsuit against the makers of Om Shanti Om to its logical closure. Says Manoj Kumar, "Yes, I've filed civil and criminal cases against them. There's also a contempt of court case since they did not remove the objectionable scenes even after the earlier court directive. It's a tough fight ahead. But I'll see it to its completion. I've faith in God." Manoj Kumar says that no one from the core group of the Om Shanti Om (OSO) team has tried to get in touch with him after the case went into court.

Says the veteran actor-filmmaker, "No one has approached me or the people close to me. And even if they did I wouldn't budge from my decision. I am claiming damages to the tune of Rs. 100 crores." However, he is quick to point out that legal against the makers of OSO is not money-driven. "I am not suing for damages to get monetary compensation. The damage that they've done to me (by spoofing Manoj Kumar in the film) is irreversible and irreparable." Manoj Kumar says he'd give the away defamatory amount, if he wins the case. "I will give away the entire money to charity. I am fighting on principle, not for the money. And I will see this to the end." The veteran filmmaker asserts that an out-of-court settlement is not an option. "They had enough opportunities to make amends. Now, it's a fight to finish. They are most welcome to visit me. And I'll be most courteous to them. But as far as this matter is concerned I'll see them only in court. It a subjudice matter."

Manoj Kumar files case against SRK, Farah

3 Apr 2013

Yesteryear's actor Manoj Kumar created a furor around the release of the Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone starrer Om Shanti Om, based on his apparent defamation in the film. Though later the actor withdrew post SRK and director Farah Khan apologized to him. But now he has renewed his battle against the film.

In fact Kumar has lodged a criminal case in a local court on Tuesday against Shah Rukh Khan and choreographer-director Farah Khan for allegedly defaming him in their 2007 movie Om Shanti Om. Further, the 75-year old actor has demanded registration of a first information report against Shah Rukh and Farah for alleged offences pertaining to cheating, defamation, criminal breach of trust and conspiracy, in his complaint before the Andheri Metropolitan Court.

The reason behind his visible anger is related to a scene in the film in which Shah Rukh had mimicked Kumar in a manner which the veteran actor found objectionable. However, the magistrate, while adjourning the matter till Friday, has directed that a CD of the movie containing the objectionable scene be produced before the court.

Earlier, post the apology, a Mumbai court had ordered that the said scene be deleted from the movie before it was released and telecast on television channels. Now with the recent release in Japan, the said scene was not deleted. Adding that he had been made to believe that the scene was deleted from the movie, but now it was being shown all over the place in an attempt to gain popularity and business for the film, and making money out of it, which he has termed as a "fraud" and "conspiracy".
