I was put in a Dingy Cell with Five Criminals, Payal Rohatgi

17 Dec 2019

On Tuesday evening, Payal Rohatgi and her husband Sangram Singh breathed a sigh of relief after Payal, incarcerated in Bundi for her remarks about the Gandhi-Nehru family, was released on bail. Speaking to me soon after being released, Payal sounded shaken. Im still numb with disbelief. How can this happen? What did I do? I am just so so relieved to be out of that ordeal. I was whisked away by the Rajasthan police from Ahmedabad as soon as they realized I had applied for bail. They first put me in a filthy cell in the police station, then took me to jail where I was locked up with five hardcore criminals. It was a nightmare. We had to sleep on the cold floor. Thats where one sleeps in jail. I wouldnt have been able to survive one more night in that jail. Payal is thankful that her husband and her lawyer were able to get her out. My husband is a very innocent man. We have no knowledge of how the law works. This is why the Rajasthan police was able to use it (the law) against me. They claim I have not been replying to their notices. Ive emails proving otherwise. As Payal gets ready for a long battle ahead with the law, she sighs in relief. At the moment I am just grateful to be out. All I need is a warm bed. I dont think this experience will ever leave me. I just hope I dont have to go through it again. I believe the media has been very supportive. I want to thank everyone out there who supported me. It will take a long time to get over what Ive gone through.

Payal Rohatgi detained by Rajasthan police for posting objectionable content on Nehru Gandhi family on social media

16 Dec 2019

The Rajasthan Police on Sunday morning detained actress Payal Rohatgi from her Ahmedabad residence for posting objectionable content on Nehru Gandhi family on social media. I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from @google. Freedom of Speech is a joke @PMOIndia @HMOIndia, she wrote in her tweet. State Youth Congress general secretary and a resident of Bundi, Charmesh Sharma, had filed a complaint against the actress and submitted the content which was offensive. A case was registered after this. As per her social media, the objectionable content was published on September 6 and 21. The police said the actress wasnt cooperating when the formal investigation was been conducted. Hence, they had to detain her. Charmesh Sharma, in his complaint, has alleged that the actress has shared the content which is objectionable and tarnished the image of the country, disgraced a womans character, tarnished the countrys image. Payal Rohatgi was booked under the IT Act on October 10 by the Bundi police for the objectionable content posted against Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and other members of the family. She applied for bail on Thursday and the hearing will take place on Monday. ALSO READ: Payal Rohatgi LASHES OUT at Anurag Kashyap; blames him for using his daughters name to target PM Narendra Modi

Dibakar Banerjee REACTS to Payal Rohatgi revisiting sexual harassment charges against him

23 Oct 2018

In the wake of Me Too movement which is gaining momentum with every passing day, Payal Rohatgi released a statement claiming that she wanted the industry to notice the complaint she had raised in 2011 against Dibakar Banerjee. She had held a press conference back then and said that Dibakar asked her to lift her skirt and show her body to him while shooting Shanghai.Banerjee had denied the charges back then. Payal has asked Yash Raj Films , producers of Dibakars next Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar , to take cognizance of this since, the industry is finally waking up to providing safe working environment to all. Dibakar reacted to this development and said that his stand is unchanged. Payal Rohatgi in a statement said that her voice was suppressed back then but she will not tolerate this anymore. She said, I faced a lot of backlash when I spoke about being sexually harassed by Dibakar Banerjee. Not directly, but indirectly, I was boycotted by the entire fraternity that supported the director, because it is a male-dominated set-up. Its only recently that female filmmakers are having a say. Today, many women are speaking up about their ordeal, and the reason I am bringing up the 2011 incident again, is because I dont want people to think that what I said back then was a made-up story. The allegations I made in 2011 were true and I stand by them even today. To give courage to others who are speaking. Payal wants justice to be delivered now and YRF to take strict action against Banerjee. It was encouraging to see that Bollywood fraternity is finally taking action against all sexual offenders slowly and steadily. A- Listers like Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar have expressed their displeasure and shortly sex offenders like Vikas Bahl and Sajid Khan who were helming their projects were asked to discontinue their services. Even veteran actors like Alok Nath, Nana Patekar who were named and shamed by their MeToo survivors, are facing tough consequences with their careers. Will Payals plea be heard? #MeToo Payal Rohatgi rekindles sexual harassment allegations against Dibakar Banerjee; questions if YRF will continue with work with him

22 Oct 2018

Considering the massive uproar on #MeToo movement, a lot seem to be happening on the Bollywood front. Production houses are taking actions against many alleged sexual harassers and many actors, musicians have been suspended from their respective projects and some have resigned. Followed by this, model turned actress Payal Rohatgi revealed an incident that she faced with Dibakar Banerjee seven years ago. Payal Rohatgi recalled about the alleged sexual harassment in reports where she accused Dibakar Banerjee of trying to make a move on her using his bad marriage as an excuse. She also reasoned that she didnt file an FIR against him because she was intimated. The actress also went on to question YRF who has been working with Dibakar and also asked them if they would continue to work with him despite the allegations. The filmmaker made his last film Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar with the production house. The actress also spoke about the time when he asked her to lift her shirt. In these reports, Rohatgi stated that there was this one time when Dibakar had tried to take advantage of her by wooing her with a film offer. He had asked her to lift her shirt and show him her stomach. She was left offended by the question and called him out. But the actress has been asserting that this incident had changed her life forever because she had stopped getting film offers. Furthermore, she also called out Anurag Kashyap for standing up for his friend Dibakar Banerjee despite the harassment she was apparently subjected to. She mentioned that Kashyap had refused to sign her up for films or take her on for projects because she had claimed to her that she was having an affair with Dibakar. In the same breath, the actress has refused to take any legal action against him stating that she doesnt want her fianc, wrestler Sangram Singh and her family to go through the ordeal again. On the other hand, Dibakar Banerjee is yet to respond to these allegations. Sangram Singh to marry Payal Rohatgi in November after death contract is over

7 Jan 2015

Olympian wrestler Sangram Singh has recently signed a 'Death Contract' with the Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship which is to be held on February 28, at Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

The lethal game, says Sangram, will only leave one of the two players in the ring on his feet at the end of the game.

"Serious injuries are very likely. I'll be pitched against the world wrestling champ Joe Legend for the 'last man standing' match. The last time when I played for this match I broke my nose and my ribs. This time anything can happen. Hence the 'Death Contract' which means if anything happens to me, no one is to blame," says Sangram.

The wrestling champ says he also wants to help other wrestlers financially. "I will use the money that I make from the 'Last Man Standing' match to help my colleagues. There are dozens of promising wrestlers in the country who can't afford proper training. I want to use my name and money to help them." Shaadi to long-time girlfriend Payal Rohatgi has been pushed to November. "I want to see how the 'Last Man Standing' match goes. I want to concentrate on wrestling throughout the year. Payal and I will marry in November."

"Sangram is my man" - Payal Rohatgi

3 Mar 2014

Actress-dancer Payal Rohatgi took her 3-year old relationship with wrestler Sangram Singh to the next level. On Thursday, the pair got engaged at a simple ceremony in Ahmedabad in the presence of Payal's parents.

Sangram's parents were conspicuous by their absence.

Says Payal ecstatically, "The sagaai was a simple ceremony. Sangram is a simple man with high moral values." Payal says Sangram has brought stability into her life. "Ever since I met Sangram I am at peace with myself.I am glad I have found a partner who is a man of his words. He is humble, matureand a terrific human being." She will marry Sangram this winter. "The shaadi will hopefully happen in November or December 2014.Sangram is the man for me. Of that I am sure." What about the two being such different human beings? Would they be able to make a marriage out of their compatibility? Says Payal, "I guess God has his own plans for all of us.And I trust His decision. He always does what's best for me."
