'First Act' docuseries to capture journey of child actors

8 Dec 2023

'First Act' will highlight the important role played by both parents and the industry in safeguarding the well-being of children, and emphasizes the significance of fostering a secure and balanced childhood for them. The series presents candid and authentic narratives shared by former child artists who have transitioned into accomplished actors, such as Sarika, Jugal Hansraj, Parzaan Dastur, and Darsheel Safary. Additionally, it features insights from noted filmmakers who have worked closely with child artists during the course of their careers, such as Shoojit Sircar and Amole Gupte, as well as casting directors such as Mukesh Chhabra, Honey Trehan, and Tess Joseph, providing a comprehensive viewpoint on the dynamics of working with child artists in the industry.Sharing more details about the project, Deepa Bhatia, director, said, "This was a project that had been sitting with me on the back burner for some time. Child actors are an integral part of the Indian film and television industry, and many beautiful stories would not be as impactful without them. However, these artists face a unique set of challenges that I felt needed to be shared. I am so delighted that professionals who started their careers as child actors have come forward to support this project, in addition to the stalwarts. I feel it will be of special interest to the parents, educators, and filmmakers to see this documentary and understand the challenges faced by child actors so that they can step in and make things better where they can."'First Act' will be out on Prime Video on December 15.

South Korean pop-group BIGBANG's former member Seungris prison sentence has been reduced 1 year and 6 months. Seungri currently has nine charges including the violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, prostitution mediation, purchase of prostitution services, and special violence instigation. On January 27, as reported by Korean publication Soompi, the High Court for Armed Forces carried out Seungris appeal trial. In the appeal trial, the justice department sentenced Seungri to one year and six months in prison, which is a reduced sentence from his first sentence of three years in prison, along with a fine of 1,156,900,000 won (about $994,544).Previously, Seungri and the military prosecution had both filed appeals on his original sentence. The reduced sentence seems to follow Seungris change in stance. In the original trial, Seungri had denied eight of his nine charges excluding the violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, but he acknowledged all his charges in the appeal trial and conveyed his remorse.Following the first trial last year, Seungri is currently imprisoned after being placed under arrest by the court. Both Seungri and the military prosecution did not appeal to the Supreme Court, so in the case that the appeal sentence is finalized, Seungri will be released after serving one year and one month more of his sentence. The third trial will be carried out by the Supreme Court of Korea.

The shoot of Mr. Lele, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Ram Setu comes to a halt after the lead actors test positive

6 Apr 2021

The rise in the number of positive cases in Mumbai has been increasing at an alarming rate. The movie shoots had begun their schedules with a limited crowd during July 2020, however, the number of the members present on the sets increased as months passed by. Currently facing the second wave of COVID-19 in Maharashtra, the reports of celebrities testing positive on a daily basis have certainly left us shocked. The shoot of Mr. Lele starring Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar has been put on a halt just a few days after it went on the floors. The movie was in the news for the male protagonist being changed and multiple other aspects, however, it looks like the makers will have to wait for the lead stars of the movie to recover and then resume shoot two weeks later. As for Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, the last leg of the film has been delayed yet again. Initially, the shoot was halted because director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had tested positive, after resuming the shoot post his quarantine, a couple of days later, Alia Bhatt was tested positive and is currently under home quarantine. Ram Setu actor Akshay Kumar was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. However, the actor has been admitted to a hospital as a precautionary measure. Along with Akshay Kumar, almost 45 other crew members have tested positive for COVID-19 on the sets of Ram Setu. While he had recently wrapped his stint in Madh Island with Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha, he was to begin the shoot in Film City. The makers have however decided to keep the set erect until they resume shooting after the quarantine period ends.
