Movie buffs of the 90s would definitely recollect the role of Maharani from the Sanjay Dutt Pooja Bhatt starrer Sadak , one of the most iconic villainous roles played by the late Sadashiv Amrapurkar. Now after 27 years, the sequel to this romantic drama will feature another villain in the form of Gulshan Grover. Sadak 2 will also see Sanjay and Pooja reunite along with Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur playing lead roles. It will also mark the return of Mahesh Bhatt as the director. Well, we all know that Gulshan Grover is the original Bad Man of Bollywood. The actor is known for his villainous roles and his return in a similar space will definitely create curiousity. But will he be compared with the late Sadashiv Amrapurkar? That is a fear that Grover doesnt face mainly because his character is expected to be quite different from the original. 90s fans would be aware that Sadashiv played the role of a eunuch who ran the brothel where Pooja Bhatt was kidnapped and held in captivity. Although Gulshan didnt reveal too many details of his role, he did describe his character as interesting, scary, dangerous and relevant in recent reports. He also assured that his character will remain in audiences mind even after they exit the theatre. The veteran actor was also all praises for the films storyline which he believes is relevant and how his character reflects what is happening the society currently. He also went on to say that Sadak 2 is probably the most exciting film in his career that spans over 400 films. Interestingly, Gulshan Grover has already worked with Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in the past. While he thanked Mahesh Bhatt for choosing him for this important character in this film, he is equally excited to work with Sanjay again. Calling him as his brother, Gulshan was happy to reunite with Dutt with whom he has worked in over 30 films. He also believes that their onscreen animosity that was portrayed in other films in the past will only get better with Sadak 2 and that the extra layers added to their respective characters will help them in doing it. Bollywood woke up today to a sad news. The talented actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar is no more.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who was being treated for lung infection at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital since the last few days, passed away early morning today. Born and brought up in a Marathi Brahmin family, he was fondly called as 'Tatya' by his loved ones. While he was best known for his path breaking roles in films like Sadak and Ardh Satya , he was equally known for his light heated and villainous roles in films like Aankhen, Ishq, Coolie No 1, Gupt: The Hidden Truth to name a few.
Bollywood residents took to twitter to express their condolence for this great actor. While Anupam Kher tweeted, "I am so saddened to know about the demise of a fine human being & a wonderful actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar. He was a kind & a learned man. RIP", Ashoke Pandit tweeted, "Sad to know about the demise of Sadashiv Amrapurkar a Grt theatre & film actor.Superb human being. Will miss U Sir.RIP.".
On the other hand, reputed choreographer Jay Borade too passed away yesterday. Salman Khan took to twitter yesterday to express his condolence. Salman tweeted "My favorite choreographer no more .Mpk ,hahk , baggi , hum saatsaat .... Enjoy the songs n make his soul rest in peace . Enjoy this eve.".
We at Bollywood Hungama offer our heartfelt condolence to the two departed souls and pray that their souls rest in eternal peace.
Not many know that Ganesh Kumar Narwode is actually the real name of the veteran actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar, the very man who almost redefined the way we looked at Hindi film villains. He played iconic roles in thefilms in the 90s. No wonder then, he was and is a darling of the masses.
It's a real sad thing to know that the man who entertained everyone all his life in films (Hindi and Marathi) like Ardh Satya, Kaal Chakra, Sadak, Ishq ... to name a few, is a critical condition now, even as you read this article. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama , his daughter Reema Amrapurkar said, "My father had been admitted him 2 weeks ago for the treatment of a lung infection. But, since the last five days, he has been in the ICU and is really critical now. The doctors have now put him on a ventilator."
We at Bollywood Hungama pray for the fast and speedy recovery of this talented actor.
Ardh Satya which revolved around a police officer struggling in the world of corrupt politicians and other officials had Om Puri, Smita Patil, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Naseeruddin Shah in main roles. Director Govind Nihalani and producer Manmohan Shetty have now decided to make a sequel to this popular social drama. Nihalani, who also directed the original film, is already completing the scripting of the sequel.
While Nihalani says that he will finish the script by August, he wanted to strike a balance between modifying the script and at the same time, take the original story forward. Though Nihalani has expressed his desire to cast Om Puri in the sequel, the casting is yet to be finalized.
Since the water problem in Maharashtra is becoming so sensitive that anyone 'spending' water is bound to come under the radar. Just a few days back, we had reported as to how the veteran actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar had become the victim of his neighbors' ire because he had reported about water wastage.
The latest in the spotlight w.r.t. water usage is none other than SRK's film Chennai Express. News has it that the irrigation department of the state has asked for a report from the concerned officials about the water usage (that was used during the film's shoot) from the Dhom dam in Satara. The local villagers argued that not just was the water extracted from the dam, but also a garden was set up for shooting and its maintenance has been straining the valuable resource.
Talking about the issue, Pradip Patil (Executive Engineer- Dhom Dam) said that team of irrigation officials are looking into the issue and a report will be submitted to higher authorities in the irrigation department shortly. He added that the report will contain all the details that will serve as an answer to those who raised questions about the supply and use of water. He also added that permission was granted by the irrigation department to the production team for their film's shooting and for that, the company had also paid the advance money. Echoing his words was Krishanu Sarvabhaum (Line Producer- Red Chillies Entertainment), who said that not just the water used at the sets were purchased and the workers were provided mineral water, but also all the required permissions were taken from the irrigation department for shooting at the Dhom dam.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who is best known for his villainous roles in movies, faced the wrath of the residents from his neighboring society yesterday because he had informed a news channel about a 'rain dance' event that was happening in the Panchvati building. He had informed the channel about the dance event, in lieu of the drought situation that's prevailing in Maharashtra. Apparently, while the show was scheduled for Wednesday evening, he had informed the channel on Wednesday morning. Post that, the news team reached the location.
Talking about the incident, Amrapurkar said that as a part of the DJ and rain dance, the society had wasted so much water since 9.30am. He also alleged that a few inebriated people from the neighboring not just assaulted the news cameraman and took away his cassette, but abused and assaulted him as well.
After receiving a complaint, the Versova police arrived at the spot and took Amrapurkar and the cameraman to the police station to record their statements. After that, the cameraman was taken to Cooper Hospital, where he was being treated for injuries of the chest and neck. Meanwhile, the police have also registered a case of rioting and assault against the accused.
