Sonu Sood calls for human rights education program about government food schemes

9 Oct 2020

Sonu Sood today joins actors and filmmakers including Sonakshi Sinha, Raveena Tandon, R. Balki, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Imtiaz Ali, Nandita Das, Saket Chaudhary, Alankrita Shrivastava, Ruchi Nair, and Shonali Bose, each taking a stand for the human right they feel is most important. On the Born Free & Equal podcast by United for Human Rights, where Sonu chose to talk about the human right Food and Shelter for All, he said, Food and Shelter is the right that everyone needs and deserves to get. Imagine all these poor guys who are on the roads - they're not getting food with them for two days, three days. What we realized is that government distributed food reaches a lot of places, but we also had at least 30 to 40% of people who still get deprived of all their needs and their rights, so the question is how to make that awareness? Yes, the law and rights to food and shelter exist, but how many people are really enjoying it in the heartland, theres a lot of classism, there are a lot of people not aware of their rights and, like what this Born Free and Equal podcast is doing, its just about bringing that awareness - awareness of your rights. Half of the people, I would say five out of 10 people, they are not aware, or if they are aware, they don't know how to make use of their rights. So, I think that that's a little bit of a knowledge that needs to be given to these guys.Sonu was joined on the podcast by actress Sheena Chohan, South Asia Ambassador for United for Human Rights, who was awarded the Hero Award at the United Nations in New York last year. Sheena said. The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Indian Constitution make it clear that people have a right to these basic rights. Article 47 of our Constitution says raising the level of nutrition, standard of living and health is among the states most important duties. So, its wonderful to have someone like Sonu, who has done so much to provide for those without food and shelter in this crisis, call for education programs which would permanently see that awareness of the food schemes provided by the government to comply with the constitution, reach everyone who needs it.

Here is why the makers of The Sky Is Pink made Pink Gulabi Sky the promotional song

9 Oct 2019

The promotional track Pink Gulabi Sky of Shonali Boses film The Sky is Pink was initially a part of the film. The peppy dance number features the lead cast- Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar , Zaira Wasim, and Rohit Saraf. Only after shooting the entire song, did the team decide to edit out the song from the film and use it as a promotional track. Shonali Bose, the director of the film while talking to a daily said that the producers felt that a big entertaining song was needed in the film. So, the team shot Pink Gulabi Sky sung by Shashwat Singh and Jonita Gandhi. However, the team later felt that the song was disrupting the flow of the story and so it was edited out. So, the director was surprised when the team was on the same page as her. She was happy that the makers wanted to protect her film and said that such a decision requires guts after having spent a lot of money on the song. The Sky Is Pink is produced by RSVP and Roy Kapur Films, in association with S K Global and Purple Pebble Pictures. The film is written by Shonali Bose and Nilesh Maniyar and is slated to release on October

Zaira Wasim misses out on the golden moment of her career

17 Sep 2019

Zaira ( Secret Superstar ) Wasims not-so-secret decision to quit cinema couldnt have been more ill-timed. Just when her starrer The Sky Is Pink is gathering global glory Zaira has walked away from her promising career. She was sorely missed at the Toronto International Film Festival where the film premiered on 13 September. Sources say the director Shonali Bose made every effort to get Zaira to Toronto for the big moment in her career. But Zaira has made up her mind. She has turned her back on Bollywood and cinema completely. There will be no exceptions. The director Shonali Bose who is very close to Zaira did her best to persuade Zaira. But she was barely reachable in Kashmir where she lives, says a source. There were repeated inquiries about Zairas absence at the TIFF. Even if Zaira stays away from what is rightfully her moment of glory, no one can snatch the moment away from her.

My heart is heavy as the sky is dark over Indias democracy, writes filmmaker Shonali Bose

19 Aug 2019

Filmmaker Shonali Bose penned down a lengthy note about the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and how she is unable to get in touch with actor Zaira Wasim, with whom she hasbeen working on her latest project. In the post, Boselashed out at the decision to split J&K into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. She wrote, It has been two weeks since the unprecedented communication blockade of Jammu and Kashmir. My heart is heavy as the sky is dark over Indias democracy right now. My heart has always ached for the terrible human rights violations in the Valley right from the times of the Congress government in the 90s. The disappearances and killing of innocent youth is not new. Nor is the opening of fire on demonstrations. But this government has crossed every line with its draconian measures. I want to ask every Indian every Bengali, Maharashtrian, Gujarati, Tamilian et al how would you feel if your State was split overnight and converted into a Union Territory? Leave Article 370 aside for a moment and answer that honestly. For me, the shock and anger at this unconstitutional act is laced with sorrow at how our own people must be feeling in this part of our country. Feelings we can only imagine as there is still a blackout! View this post on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B1SxPzjJ11n/ #NotmyIndia.
