Taylor Swift urges judge to reconsider decision of sending Shake It Off lawsuit to trial

30 Dec 2021

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and her attorneys are trying to dodge the copyright lawsuit over her 2014 hit Shake It Off. After a federal judge ruled that a copyright infringement case against the singer would go to trial, Swift's lawyers are again asking him to dismiss the case in a new motion, requesting that U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald reconsider his decision.According to Entertainment Weekly, the lawsuit alleges that Taylor Swift copied lyrics from the 2000 song Playas Gon' Play, recorded by the girl group 3LW. In court documents filed December 23, Swift's attorneys argue that allowing the case to proceed would represent an "unprecedented" decision, noting that the judge's order "does something that, as far [as] Defendants are aware, no other court has done, namely finding a potentially valid infringement claim in the use of two short public domain phrases along with allegedly similar ideas and concepts. Defendants respectfully submit that the ruling should be revisited."Plaintiffs admitted, and it is undisputed, that the phrases 'players gonna play' and 'haters gonna hate' are unprotected and in the public domain, the motion from Swift's lawyers continued, adding that unless the case is dismissed, "Plaintiffs could sue everyone who writes, sings, or publicly says 'players gonna play' and 'haters gonna hate,'" and "to permit that is unprecedented and 'cheat[s] the public domain.'"Songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, who penned Playas Gon' Play, filed the lawsuit against Taylor Swift in 2017, arguing that the lines the players gonna play, play, play, play, play and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate in Shake It Off violated the 2000 song's copyright.Judge Fitzgerald previously dismissed the lawsuit in 2018, stating that a phrase like "haters gonna hate" is too "banal" to be protected under copyright. However, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the ruling a year later, sending the case back to the district court. In his December 9 decision allowing the case to proceed, Fitzgerald wrote, "Even though there are some noticeable differences between the works, there are also significant similarities in word usage and sequence/structure," and denied the defendants' motion for a summary judgment.

Adele announces Las Vegas Residency titled Weekends with Adele, beginning in January 2022

1 Dec 2021

Singer-songwriter Adele will begin the exclusive residency in the Colosseum of Las Vegas Caesars Palace Hotel from Friday January 21, 2022. Titled Weekends With Adele, the singer will perform two shows each weekend through Saturday April 16, 2022 for a total of 12 weeks. The long-rumored announcement comes after the singers fourth studio album, , debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week with by far the years biggest first-week numbers, around 839,000 units. It debuted at No. 1 on album charts in 30 countries and has become the top-selling album of 2021 in just three days surpassing Taylor Swifts Evermore, which had sold 462,000 copies over 11 months.See you at Caesars in VegasssThe Colosseum has an official capacity of 4,100, which provides a relatively intimate environment for Adeles famously chatty concerts, for her stately and often-sad songs contrasting with her bawdy humor and hilarious, self-deprecating banter. Adeles shows take place across consecutive weekends, except for February 18-19. Apparently, Caesars Palace has no vaccine requirement for these or any concerts.Along with two dates in Londons Hyde Park next summer and her recent One Night Only CBS special filmed at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, the Las Vegas residency shows are the only concert dates Adele has announced in support of 30 thus far.Adele undertook a massive global tour in 2016 and 2017 supporting her previous album, , which took in some 121 arena dates across Europe, North America, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand before wrapping with four shows at Londons 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium.

Shaan to release his iconic Tanha Dil in an all new avatar on October 27; to deal with the topic of mental health

11 Oct 2021

The new version of 'Tanha Dil', which deals with the topic of mental health is backed by leading pharma brand, Lupin. Renowned Bollywood singer Shaan who recently celebrated his birthday, is all set to give his fans a special treat. As Shaans iconic Tanha Dil clocks 20 years, the singer will celebrate the occasion by releasing a new Tanha Dil Tanha Safar. The track will be completely different though and will tackle the delicate issue of Mental Health.Post COVID-19, there was a dramatic spike in the number of people battling depression. Shaan felt that a song that addresses the issue sensitively is the need of the hour and hence the idea of Tanha Dil Tanha Safar was born. The track, though focusing on a serious issue, has the same magic and soulfulness that has made Shaan a household name for decades.Commenting on the same, Releasing the new version of Tanha Dil had been on my mind for a while and coincidentally its happening 20 years after the first track. We have tried to deal with a delicate topic sensitively and I hope people apart from enjoying the song, imbibe the message as well. Mental Health is a long and hard condition to deal with but there always is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am so glad that Lupin could come on board and support us in our vision. Our song earnestly deals with the issue and I hope it brings a smile on peoples faces. Don't let them Struggle in silence, together let's make them #SayYesToLife," he signs off.
