Netflix has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming film Inspector Zende , set to stream exclusively on the platform from September 5. Written and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Jay Shewakramani and Om Raut, the film is loosely inspired by the real-life story of Inspector Madhukar Zende, a street-smart Mumbai cop who became a legend for capturing the notorious Swimsuit Killer, Carl Bhojraj not once, but twice. #Manoj Bajpayee Inspector Zende Trailer: Netflix promises a showdown between Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh in a high-stakes cat-and-mouse chase Set in an era before CCTV surveillance and digital forensics, Inspector Zende traces the relentless pursuit of a cop who relied on instinct, resourcefulness, and teamwork to bring down one of the citys most elusive criminals. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee in the titular role, with Jim Sarbh portraying Carl Bhojraj. The supporting cast includes Sachin Khedekar, Bhalchandra Kadam, Harish Dudhade, Onkar Raut, Bharat Savale, and Nitin Bhajan as part of Zendes trusted team. Girija Oak and Vaibhav Mangale also appear in key roles. The trailer teases a mix of quirky camaraderie, intense drama, and an unforgettable chase that spans across cities before culminating in Goa. Sharing his thoughts on playing Inspector Zende, Manoj Bajpayee said, What fascinated me about Inspector Zende was that he wasnt chasing glory he was just doing his job, yet caught one of the most notorious criminals twice. His bravery, humour, and that unmistakable Mumbai flavour make his journey truly inspiring. Meeting him felt like stepping into a storybook, with a lifetime of tales to tell. Playing him let me dive into a world thats as gritty as it is entertaining. The trailer is only a glimpse the film takes you right into the heart of it. Im glad his story is finally getting the spotlight it deserves, and that too globally on Netflix. Director Chinmay D. Mandlekar added, Inspector Zendes real-life chase had all the ingredients of a gripping film: a larger-than-life cop, a slippery antagonist, and an unforgettable era of Mumbai. But what really stayed with me was the camaraderie, the small moments, and the quirks of the people involved. The trailer hints at the chase, but the film lets you live every beat of it. I cant wait for audiences to experience it on Netflix. With its blend of action, wit, and nostalgia, Inspector Zende aims to bring alive a story of courage and resilience, as the Swimsuit Killer meets his match.
In the winding gullies of 70s and 80s Mumbai, when the infamous Swimsuit Killer breaks out of Tihar Jail, a determined police officer must track him down at all costs. Loosely inspired by a true story, this tale of determination and sheer grit unfolds into an epic cat-and-mouse chase. Netflixs latest quirky drama of an unlikely hero cop, Inspector Zende, arrives September 5. Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh face off in retro cop-comedy Inspector Zende; to release on Netflix on September 5 Starring the ever-versatile Manoj Bajpayee as Inspector Madhukar Zende, and Jim Sarbh as the charming trickster and notorious swimsuit killer Carl Bhojraj, the film is directed and written by Chinmay D. Mandlekar. It also features Bhalchandra Kadam, Sachin Khedekar, Girija Oak, and Harish Dudhade in pivotal roles. Inspector Zende blends crime, comedy, and nostalgia transporting you to a time when gut instinct trumped gadgets and relentless determination was a cops greatest weapon. Producer Om Raut shares, Inspector Zendes story is one that deserves to be seen, remembered and celebrated. A gripping chase thats as entertaining as it is inspiring, and most essentially, it was my fathers dream to make a film on Inspector Zende. Bringing this film to life with Netflix has been an incredible journey. Producer Jay Shewakramani adds, Netflixs support for distinctive, true-spirited stories and their ability to take them to audiences across the world make them the perfect partner for this film. Were excited for viewers to meet Inspector Zende, an unlikely hero with an unforgettable story. Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films, Netflix India shares, "Inspector Zende flips the classic cop-versus-criminal story on its head, deftly blending comedy and crime to deliver something truly unexpected. Inspired by true events, the film marks the Hindi directorial debut of Chinmay D. Mandlekar, who brings a grounded sense of place and perspective to the storytelling. With Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh leading the charge, the film bursts with personality, supported by a versatile ensemble cast. At Netflix, were continually drawn to stories that celebrate heartland heroes and victories woven into the fabric of our culture and history." Inspector Zende is a salute to old-school sleuthing and jugaadu (resourceful) justice. Its the tale of an ordinary man who cracked an extraordinary case.
Following its world premiere at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival in the Perspective section, the Bengali film Baksho Bondi Shadowbox , starring Tillotama Shome and produced by Shome and Jim Sarbh, will open the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 as the Opening Night Film, marking its Australian premiere. #Tillotama Shome Tillotama Shome starrer Baksho Bondi Shadowbox to open the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025 Co-directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi in their directorial debut, Baksho Bondi features Tillotama Shome as Maya, set against the backdrop of a dusty Kolkata suburb, weaving a powerful narrative of love, resilience, and the quiet strength of a working woman navigating her everyday life. The Opening Night screening is scheduled for August 14th in Melbourne, setting the tone for the festivals celebration of bold, layered, and deeply human stories from India. Tillotama Shome, reflecting on the films journey, shared, Baksho Bondi is incredibly close to my heart. Playing Maya was a lesson in listening to silences, in discovering strength in small acts, and in understanding how quiet resilience shapes womens lives in a world that often overlooks them. After Berlin, bringing Mayas story to Melbourne feels special because of the incredible strength and spirit of inclusion that radiates from Mitu, the festival director of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. This film is a love letter to working women, to dusty afternoons in Barrackpore and to the courage that quietly persists even when no one is watching. Mitu Bhowmick Lange, Director of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, added, We are honoured to open IFFM 2025 with Baksho Bondi Shadowbox, a film that exemplifies the strength of Indian independent cinema while touching on themes that are deeply personal and globally relatable. Tillotama Shomes performance as Maya is nothing short of extraordinary, and Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi have crafted a tender, honest, and visually stunning film that resonates with the spirit of resilience and hope. It is exactly the kind of cinema we are proud to showcase at IFFM, and we are excited for Australian audiences to experience this gem on our Opening Night. Baksho Bondi Shadowbox further solidifies IFFMs commitment to showcasing stories that are rooted in lived realities while embracing the power of cinematic storytelling, making it a perfect start for the 2025 edition. Now in its 16th year, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) is recognised as one of the largest platforms for Indian cinema outside India. Supported by the Victorian Government, the festival will take place from August 14 to 24. This years award nominees highlight a wide range of stories from across languages and formats. The IFFM Awards Night, scheduled for August 15, will honour achievements in both film and OTT categories.
