Rita Bhattacharya BREAKS SILENCE after Kumar Sanus Rs 50 crores defamation suit, calls for peace

22 Dec 2025

Singer Kumar Sanu and his former wife Rita Bhattacharya are once again in the spotlight as a legal dispute unfolds years after their divorce. The veteran playback singer filed a defamation suit in the Bombay High Court against Bhattacharya, alleging that recent interviews she gave contained defamatory remarks that harmed his reputation and violated the terms of their divorce agreement. Rita Bhattacharya BREAKS SILENCE after Kumar Sanus Rs 50 crores defamation suit, calls for peace In his petition, Sanus legal team, led by advocate Sana Raees Khan, has sought damages reported to be Rs 50 crores and has demanded that the interviews in question be taken down from various entertainment platforms. The suit claims that Bhattacharyas statements breach a clause from their 2001 divorce settlement that prohibited either party from making allegations against the other in public. Reacting publicly for the first time since the notice was issued, Bhattacharya described her shock at the legal action, particularly the financial demand involved. In an interview with ETimes, she said, The paper he has sent me, he is asking for 50 crores. I dont know how Sanu is dreaming that I have so much money. It is really sad. Im shocked. He is filing a case against the mother of his three grown-up sons. The conflict partly stems from remarks made in media interviews and social media responses earlier this year, including reactions tied to comments by actor Kunickaa Sadanand about a past relationship with a married man. Bhattacharya and her son, Jaan Sanu, responded on social platforms, prompting further scrutiny and the subsequent lawsuit. She further shared, I never got a chance to talk to him. Neither my children ever got a chance to talk to him because he has always blocked us. I tried to call Sanu, but he never took our calls. We are blocked on his number." I contacted his secretary and requested him to please stop this. It is a very big insult. My son was getting married, and the in-laws were asking questions. I requested many times. I have all the messages and recordings on my phone. Bhattacharya continued, I am 63 years old, and again I have to fight in court. The first time he took me to court, I was pregnant with Jaan. Now again, at this age, I have to go through this. I will meet Sanu in the court after 31 years. This is very insulting. My children are not kids. They are grown-up men. My elder son will be 37, my second son will be 34, and Jaan is already 31. I dont think it is their crime that they are answering people. They did nothing." She also indicated she may pursue a counter-case, saying, I will see him in court. And I will request Sanu with folded hands just try to be a good human being and be the father of my three children. If you cant love us, at least dont disturb us and dont harass us anymore." In closing her remarks, Bhattacharya made a heartfelt appeal to her former husband, urging him to be a good human being and be the father of my three children, and asking that he stop what she described as harassment. The court is expected to hear the matter this month.

Kumar Sanu files Rs 50 crores defamation suit against ex-wife in Bombay High Court

19 Dec 2025

Bollywood playback singer Kumar Sanu, also known as Sanu Bhattacharjee, has filed a Rs 50 crores defamation suit in the Bombay High Court against his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya and online platforms like Google and Meta over her allegedly damaging interviews and social media remarks. Kumar Sanu files Rs 50 crores defamation suit against ex-wife in Bombay High Court The plaint, filed through advocate Sana Raees Khan, targets September 2025 YouTube interviews on channels like Film Window, Viral Bhayani, and Siddharth Kannan, where Bhattacharya made false claims about Sanu's conduct during their marriage, amassing over 1.5 million views via clips and reels. Sanu seeks permanent injunctions to block further publication, takedowns of existing content, and directions for Bhattacharya to issue a written apology in court and newspapers, with the urgent interim relief application listed before Justice Milind Jadhav on December 24. The singer quantifies losses as Rs 15 crores for commercial impacts like cancelled engagements and suspended endorsements, Rs 10 crores for reputational harm, Rs 15 crores for mental agony, and Rs 10 crores in punitive damages. The defamatory remarks have cast unwarranted aspersions on Sanus integrity and credibility, resulting in a tangible decline in professional inquiries and engagement opportunities, he claimed in his suit. Sanu alleges this revives grievances 32 years post-separation, breaching their 2001 Bandra Family Court consent terms prohibiting mutual accusations: This conduct constitutes wilful and deliberate breach of consent terms entered at the time of divorce amounting to contempt of court and breach of contract. Some videos were removed post-legal notices, amid a surge in abusive social media comments, with Sanu citing a prior Delhi High Court order protecting his personality rights. The suit also names "John Doe" entities for future blocks. Sanu and Bhattacharya married in the late 1980s, had three childrenJiko, Jassi, and Jaanbefore divorcing. Sanu, famed for 1990s hits in Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, and Saajan, previously had a publicized affair with actress Kunickaa Sadanand, a Bigg Boss 19 contestant.

Kumar Sanu seeks Rs 30 lakhs damages in defamation case against ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya

18 Dec 2025

Legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu has approached the Bombay High Court seeking Rs 30 lakhs in damages from his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya over allegedly defamatory interviews that resurfaced recently. The court heard the petition on December 17, with Sanu also demanding removal of the content accusing him of mistreating her during pregnancy, including starving her, locking her in the kitchen, and denying medical care. Kumar Sanu seeks Rs 30 lakhs damages in defamation case against ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya The suit, filed by advocate Sana Raees Khan, argues that Bhattacharya's statements breach their 2001 divorce consent terms from Bandra Family Court, which prohibited mutual accusations post-separation. The interviews went viral on social media in September 2025, causing reputational harm and mental distress after legal notices were issued to Bhattacharya and platforms like Meta and YouTube demanding content takedown. In October 2025, Kumar Sanu made headlines when the Delhi High Court protected his personality and publicity rights, ordering removal of objectionable social media content, memes, and videos misusing his voice and image from concerts.

Delhi HC grants interim protection to Kumar Sanus personality rights; orders takedown of infringing content

20 Oct 2025

The Delhi High Court has granted singer Kumar Sanu interim protection over his personality rights, restraining the unauthorized use of his name, likeness, image, and voice for commercial purposes. Delhi HC grants interim protection to Kumar Sanus personality rights; orders takedown of infringing content Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, presiding over the case Kumar Sanu Bhattacharjee vs Jammable Limited & Ors., observed that prima facie, the celebrated singers personality traits are protectable elements of his identity. The interim injunction will remain in effect until the next hearing, scheduled for March 30, 2026. Prima facie, the Plaintiffs personality traits and/or parts thereof, including Plaintiffs name Kumar Sanu, voice, image, photograph or likeness and other attributes are protectable elements of the Plaintiffs personality rights. The Plaintiff is entitled to protect itself against morphed and distorted content which is demeaning, the Court stated in its order. The Court also drew reference to earlier rulings concerning the personality rights of Bollywood figures such as Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar, and Jackie Shroff. As part of its interim directions, the Court ordered Amazon and Flipkart to remove listings that violate Kumar Sanus personality rights and restrained two e-commerce sellers from selling any merchandise featuring his name, photo, or likeness without authorization. Google and Meta were directed to take down infringing content identified in Sanus petition, as well as any fresh material flagged by the singer in the future. Additionally, both platforms were ordered to provide Basic Subscriber Information (BSI) of the anonymous accounts responsible for sharing such content within three weeks. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) were also instructed to suspend URLs, websites, and mobile applications found to be misusing Sanus identity and take similar action against any new instances brought to their attention. Allegations of AI Misuse and Unauthorized Content The Courts decision came in response to a Rs 2 crores suit filed by the playback legend against several AI-based platforms, online intermediaries, digital entities, and unidentified individuals accused of creating fake, morphed, and impersonated content in his name. According to Sanu, the defendants misused his persona to sell merchandise, impersonated him on social media, and even developed a mobile application on the Google Play Store using his image and voice. The suit alleged that AI-generated sound recordings imitating his voice and GIFs caricaturing him had caused reputational damage and subjected him to unsavoury humour online. Represented by Advocate Sana Raees Khan, Sanu argued that such acts infringed his right to privacy, goodwill, and reputation, in addition to violating the provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957. The suit emphasized that his stage names Kumar Sanu, Sanu Da, and the title The Melody King of Bollywood enjoy dual protection under personality/publicity rights and trademark law. Kumar Sanu Reacts Following the courts ruling, Kumar Sanu expressed gratitude on social media, acknowledging his legal team and the judiciary for recognizing artists rights. He wrote, I am deeply grateful to my advocate, Sana Raees Khan, for her powerful and masterful arguments that led to this significant victory in court. My heartfelt thanks to the Honble Delhi High Court for recognizing and upholding my Personality Rights.

Hrithik Roshan moves Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights amid rising AI misuse

15 Oct 2025

Hrithik Roshan has moved the Delhi High Court by filing a petition seeking safeguards for his name, image, likeness and other aspects of his persona against unauthorised commercial use and misuse. This comes days after veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu sought legal protection for his personality rights, and the matter is expected to be heard on Wednesday, according to a report by Bar and Bench. #Hrithik Roshan Hrithik Roshan moves Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights amid rising AI misuse With the increasing use of generative AI and deepfake technologies, several Indian celebrities have been turning to the courts to protect their digital and personal identities. Hrithik joins a growing list of public figures including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Kumar Sanu, and even the late Ratan Tata who have sought injunctions to prevent unauthorised exploitation of their name or likeness, often through AI-generated content. Personality rights, also known as publicity rights, give individuals legal control over how their name, image, voice, and other identifiable traits are used commercially. While India does not yet have a dedicated law governing these rights, courts have upheld them under the right to privacy guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution and through existing principles of common law. Hrithik Roshan, who was last seen in War 2 which released on August 14, has been in the spotlight not only for his films but also for his new venture as a producer. The actor recently kicked off his debut production Storm in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video under his banner HRX Films. Known for his carefully curated projects and strong public image, Hrithiks move to secure his personality rights reflects a growing concern among stars about their identity being misused in the age of AI-generated videos, fake endorsements and manipulated content. As courts continue to issue directions to online platforms for removing infringing material, legal experts believe more celebrities will take similar steps until India establishes a dedicated framework to regulate the commercial use of personal likenesses in the digital era.

Vineet Kumar Singh on his show Rangeen addressing female sexuality, Due to this series, there is a discussion going on somewhere

5 Aug 2025

Vineet Kumar Singh show Rangeen recently released on Amazon Prime. He stars alongside Rajshri Deshpande, Taaruk Raina, Sheeba Chaddha and Meghna Malik. Viineet spoke about the show, his character and more in an interview with us. Vineet Kumar Singh on his show Rangeen addressing female sexuality, Due to this series, there is a discussion going on somewhere Your new series Rangeen has shocked everyone by addressing the topic of female sexuality There have been few films or serials about female orgasm. In general, if a survey is done, then I feel that many people will not be able to understand what is being said. But it is okay. Due to this series Rangeen, there is a discussion going on somewhere. There are some talks going on. And it is good to have a discussion. When there is a discussion, there is an understanding of taboo subjects. From the place that you are in now, what are you looking for in your roles and films? The place where I am right now, I am mostly looking for variety. The shades of the characters should be different. The temperament of the character should be different. There should be something new in the character. And at the same time, I have to explore a new space. And that is? That is comedy. Because it is my gut feeling that I will be able to do it very well. So, that is the space that I have to explore. I have got a chance in dark comedy. And I am really happy about that. I want to do out and out comedy. Let's see when I get that chance. Along with that, from the essays that I have written in my childhood in school it is embedded in my mind that cinema is the mirror of society. So somewhere, this thing has been imprinted in my mind. So, my effort is that with all kinds of films. I should do some such films. I should do some such characters through which I can contribute something as an actor in society. So that is also an effort. Some message should be given. Even if it is a small message. But along with entertaining, a message should be given. I also want to explore some historical things. Like I got a chance in Chhaava. So let's see. It is not in my hands. But yes, this is the thought. And action? Yes! I want to do all these things. I want to do an out and out action film like Taken.I like Taken very much. The entire franchise of Taken looks very good. So, that is what I want to do. And there are lots of things. Let's see where life takesus. I don't plan much now. What happens in front of me, I want to live it well by putting my heart in it. I want to do it well. It has been released. And the things that are going to come after this. What next? I have done a show with TVF. It is a very good show. I won't be able to say much about it now. But it is a film with Anurag Kashyap. And there is a film of mine that is made. Waiting for its release. Aadhaar , which is a very good film. And I am waiting when it will be (released). Apart from that, I have done something with Anand L. Rai. When I did Mukkabaaz earlier, he was the producer. This time he is the director. So, I have done a very special work with Anand sir. And apart from this, there are two more things that I won't be able to talk about now. Because it will be too early. So these are the things that are going to come. And there are so many other things where I am in talk. So that is also exciting news. When the right time comes, I will share everything. Would you say Chhaava was a game-changer for you? When Chhaava came, I never expected this impact. So I did the historical character of Kavi Kalash in Chhaava.I have never done anything like this in my career. But when I did it, the love I am getting, I have no words to describe it. Again after that, when I did Jaat , a negative character, I have never done such an out and out, negative, hero-and-villain film. When I did that, I got a lot of love from people. So whenever there is such an opportunity in front of me, where there is a chance to do something new, then I want to grab it, I want to do it. So this is a good thing. If there are many possibilities left in me. Many feel you should have played the main lead in Chhaava It means that somewhere people have faith in my talent. That I will walk a long way now. And I just want to bow my head and do my work. And I will do my work quietly and humbly. My character in Rangeen attracted me a lot. And there were so many things that pulled me towards it. In this show, to do this. And for preparation, I read the script many times. Then I talked to the writers a lot. How they are looking at the character. How they are looking at his journey. How they are looking at his transformation. How they are looking at the very sensitive scenes. And then I make my boxes. How much preparation went into Rangeen? What is the physicality of my journalist character who is lost in his world? The external preparation starts first. What will be his physicality? What are his habits? And then I stick all those boxes. And then I somehow figured out about his inner things, which is very helpful from the script, which is very helpful from the writer. What kind of a person is he? How does he react? How does he think? What are his relationships? How does he function professionally? How does he respond in his personal life? I somehow figure out all those things. He is a common man. So it is very easy to relate with that character. I am really thankful to all my co-stars. They are wonderful actors. Be it Rajshri. Be it Taruk. Be it Sheeba Chaddha. Be it Meghna Malik. And the other actors. Because when a co-actor understands the depth of the scene then there is a lot of possibility that something amazing happens. So, when I work with better actors. Then somewhere those actors help me to excel as an actor. So I am really thankful. And now I am very happy. People are talking about Rangeen. And it's trending on number 1 on Amazon. I am very happy. I am getting very good feedback.
