While adapting books has been a common trend in Bollywood, here comes yet another adaptation. But this time it's from a famous series! Popular for being one of India's first detective series made by Basu Chatterjee, Byomkesh Bakshy, a fictional character created by Bengali writer Saradindu Bandyopadhyay is back! Director Dibakar Banerjee has plans to direct and also co-produce the film titled Detective Byomkesh Bakshy with Yash Raj Films. "We are rebooting Byomkesh. Right back to his first ever case. We could have called this Byomkesh Begins. Everything else from now on will follow us," says Dibakar. The movie will be based on the backdrop of early 40s, and will revolve on the early life of Byomkesh i.e. his college life and how the detective came into being. The film will also have Byomkesh being pitted against the devil who is about to destroy the world. "It's his wits against the most villainous arch criminal the world has seen, in a world of murder, international political intrigue and seduction," says Banerjee.

Also, Dibakar has roped in Sushant Singh for the lead role of Byomkesh. "Sushant Singh Rajput has that dormant volcano thing about him that is just right for my Byomkesh." Says Dibakar of his leading man, "He looks so quiet, so self-absorbed and withdrawn - till you challenge him. Then he explodes and becomes the most dangerous man in the world - at least for the criminals." The director however is still thinking over whether he will be making Detective Byomkesh Bakshy into a franchise. The film will go on floor in January next year and will release on 12th December 2014.
