Mallika Sherawat booked for insulting the National Flag again

5 Sep 2014

After Kismet Love Paisa Dilli (2012) and her recent stint in Bachelorette India on Life OK, actress Mallika Sherawat was all set for a comeback in Bollywood with KC Bokadia's Dirty Politics. But just a mere first look of the film created an uproar because Mallika was seen sporting a tricolor on the poster. In fact, it resulted in a lawsuit claiming that it was an insult to the national flag and recently the actress was once again flaked for the same and was booked for disrespecting the national flag.

A case against Mallika Sherawat was filed at Falaknuma police station which is located in the old city of Hyderabad under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. Two citizens of this Andhra Pradesh capital filed a petition at the court seeking permission so that the police can book a case against Mallika for misusing the tricolour flag in the poster of her upcoming film Dirty Politics. Along with the police taking the required action, the Hyderabad High Court even issued notices to Mallika Sherawat and the Central Government based on the public interest litigation. The complainant accused the actress of obscene use of the Indian tricolour and also further claimed the state emblem has been used for cheap publicity. They also further added that this is insulting to India's honour.

The said poster has Mallika Sherawat wearing a tricolour cloth, sitting on the roof of a VIP car. This is not the first time that the poster has been criticized. In fact previously too, a case was filed in Andhra Pradesh against the actress and the makers of Dirty Politics under different acts alleging that the poster intended on insulting India and its national flag.
