"Not decided on Hero as yet" - Jackie Shroff

4 Nov 2014

Last week Jackie Shroff woke up to reports that he will be playing the villain's part in the remake of Hero . For those who came in late, Jackie played the title role in Subhash Ghai's Hero. The film turned him into an overnight star and launched his career as a pinup idol.

The switchover to villainous parts seems incongruous considering Jackie's matinee-idol looks.

But he shrugs it off saying, "Even if I am good-looking, so what? Nowadays we have a lot of handsome villains. Who says villains have to look a particular way? Vinod Khanna who played villains, was one of the most handsome men in our industry." Jackie first played the antagonist in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission: Kashmir . More recently he played the bad man in Yash Raj Film's Aurangzeb and now in Farah Khan's Happy New Year . Confesses Jackie, "I enjoy playing grey characters. There is a dark side to all of us. And it's good to explore that side of your personality through your characters." About being offered Amrish Puri's role from the original Hero Jackie says, "Let's not forget, even before I did Hero I started my career as a villain's henchman in Dev Anand Saab's Swami Dada . So I guess my career has come a full circle." Jackie has not made up his mind about doing the Hero remake.
