Revealed: The story of Bombay Velvet

19 Nov 2014

Being the magnum opus of Anurag Kashyap, Bombay Velvet has been in the news for a lot of its intriguing elements. The first is the fresh pairing of Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma and the second is that the multi-talented producer Karan Johar is making his acting debut as a villain in the film.

And now, Bollywood Hungama brings you some more exclusive scoop from the film. It is a well known fact that Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in the role of a street fighter at the docks who later on climbs the ladder of success and becomes a business tycoon.

Bombay Velvet takes us back to the Mumbai in the 50s and 60s when it was re-created as the city of dreams. Ranbir, a street fighter (as mentioned above) takes up the construction business and becomes the man behind creating one of the plushest localities of Nariman Point in South Mumbai. While creating such an expensive part of the city is not a cakewalk, he is faced with many obstacles and one of them is his arch rival played by Karan Johar. Karan will be seen playing the role of a Parsi man and the otherwise clean shaven Karan Johar will also be seen sporting a moustache for his character in the film. Adding to Ranbir's woes, Karan's character will be in love with the girl Ranbir falls for, that is, Anushka Sharma, who plays the role of a jazz singer. Though the film is about Mumbai, it has been extensively shot in Sri Lanka where the city was re-created.

Produced by Fox Star Studios and Phantom Productions, Bombay Velvet also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Raveena Tandon, Siddharth Basu and it is slated to release on May 15, 2015.
