Badlapur gets 'A' certificate due to sex and violence scenes

4 Feb 2015

Right after a major corruption controversy, the Censor Board of Film Certification seems to have a become a tad bit stricter when it comes to passing films, now that, Pahlaj Nihalani has been appointed as the new chairperson of the board. With Shamitabh getting a U/A certificate, the next film on the row was the Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur which has received an 'A' certificate.

Initially talks were on for giving the film a U/A certificate but with a few major cuts. Hence, Sriram Raghavan decided to go ahead with the 'Adult' certification since he wasn't ready to compromise on the content of the film. The filmmaker did not want to cut these scenes since he considers them to be important for the plotline of the film. From what we hear, the major cuts included a sizzling love making scene between Varun Dhawan and his co-star (on screen wife) Yaami Gautam and a passionate liplock scene with Huma Qureshi. Some of the violent scenes, like a combat between Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin where he tries to strangle the latter, were also asked to be toned down for the bloodshed and gore involved in the sequence.

Varun Dhawan who started his career with the Dharma Productions' Student of The Year will be seen playing a prisoner, who sets out on a journey of revenge against the man who destroyed his family. This will also be the first 'A' rated film in Varun's career.
