Bombay Velvet goes to Revision Committee, gets U/A certificate, Ranbir-Anushka's smooch reduced

In order to make Bombay Velvet accessible to a non-adult audience, the Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has reduced the length of the kissing scenes featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.

This was one of the adjustments required by director Anurag Kashyap before his film could be given a 'U/A' certificate.

Anurag Kashyap's 120-crore rupee retro-drama Bombay Velvet which was granted an 'Adults Only' certificate by the Examining Committee (EC) of the censor board last week was on Friday re-viewed by the Revising Committee (RC).

The eagerly-awaited film has now been granted a 'U/A' certificate which Kashyap insisted on getting.

Says a well-paced source from the CBFC, "The cuts that were stipulated earlier by the EC remain. The word 'dhobi' and some abusive terms have been beeped out. In addition a shot of a politician putting his hand on a woman's breast has been removed. The kissing scenes have been reduced." However, the violent shoot-outs that are an integral part of this crime drama remain intact.

"There was no way the action and violence could be cut without compromising the plot. Our chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani is very clear on this matter. No drastic changes and cuts that could affect the film's narrative structure," says a CBFC source.

With these cuts, Bombay Velvet is now accessible to a non-adult audience when it releases next Friday.
