Gulzar accepts the Tagore Chair at Panjab University

Writer, lyricist, director Gulzar has added yet another feather to his cap. The veteran who has earned several accolades for his literary work will now be a part of the prestigious Panjab University. In fact Gulzar has accepted the honour of occupying the Tagore Chair at Panjab University.

Gulzar will not just be interacting with the students of the university but will also be delivering lectures as a faculty member. The Tagore Chair was named after renowned literary genius and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore to commemorate his birth centenary. Interestingly, Gulzar too is a Tagore fan and had recently translated some of his poetries into different volumes namely, Nindiya Chor and Baghban in Hindi and Crescent Moon and The Gardener in English.

Besides him, Dr. Mulk Raj Anand and Dr Hazari Prasad Dwivedi have held the honour of the Tagore Chair before. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too is said to have accepted the offer of the Jawaharlal Nehru Chair and will be joining the institute as a professor.
