Salman Khan introduced by his Sultan director Ali Abbas Zafar

11 Jul 2015

When you have Salman Khan in your film, it is pretty much the need of the hour to give him a larger than life introduction. Filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar, who has so far worked with relative newcomers like Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor ( Gunday ), as well as Imran Khan and Ali Zafar ( Mere Brother Ki Dulhan ) realized that for sure. No wonder, when it came to announcing his next directorial outing Sultan with Salman Khan, he took things in his own hand. Or shall we put it this way, his own voice! He went ahead and not just designed the commentary that went along with the teaser of Sultan; he even got behind the mike and spoke all the lines himself.

So right from the moment he presents him as the King of Haryana with the line " Haryane Ki Shaan, Haryane Ka Sher, Haryane Ki Jaan - Sultan Ali Khan " to bringing the mischievous side of Salman with " Sultan Maano Aisa Lag Raha Hai Jaise Dance Kar Raha Ho " to ensuing that there are cheers from those witnessing Salman in action with " Sultan Ka Dhobhi Pachaad", Ali Abbas Zafar gets it right.

What works truly for his commentary is the impeccable Haryanvi accent that he uses to take one into the interiors of Haryana and make them familiar with the stage, setting and milieu of Sultan . Apparently, Ali has quite a few Jat friends, considering his college times in Delhi, due to which it was a cakewalk for him to get the right tone and mannerisms of the region.

From a man who made a frothy rom-com Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and then headed for Kolkata to make an action drama Gunday, a journey right in the middle of Haryana with a perfect voice to boast is a new side indeed for Ali Abbas Zafar.

The director has done his job in setting the stage right. Now it has to be seen how Salman Khan too enters the hinterlands of Haryana and plays his part of Sultan to perfection.
